Crowdsourcing Mornings: Busy Being Ze

This is Crowdsourcing Mornings! This post takes place every weekday morning and highlights one crowdsourcing project I liked from Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or other crowdsourcing websites.

Busy Being Ze is inspired by an original puppet character from a show we made a couple of years ago. This was a colourful and chaotic puppet cabaret about PSHE education with everything from flying feather boas, loved-up crocodiles and smooching socks. Ze’s act stuck with us because it made audiences stop and think. We held it very close to our hearts.

We wanted to use Ze’s story to create a show that would promote inclusivity and support school’s PSHE education after the recent outburst of parental protests. It’s a story we hope anyone could empathise with regardless of their identity or background. Ze’s story is about being different. And we are all special and different in our own way.

Ze’s name is inspired from a kind of gender neutral pronoun ze/zir. Some people might decide to use ze/zir or commonly they/their instead of gendered pronouns if they feel he or she does not fit them. After playing with Ze we didn’t feel they were a boy or a girl. It felt wrong to use he/she pronouns. So Ze was the first non-binary puppet we ever made.

Your support will go towards the first Research & Development stage of Busy Being Ze, as well as it’s future journey as a full production that we hope to take around the UK (and beyond)!

The funding will also contribute towards workshop facilitators and materials for puppet making and cabaret workshops we’ll be holding with young people with children and young people in East London this summer.

As of July 4th, this project has raised $2,000 of their $6,290 goal. This project has 11 days left to raise the $6,290 or it will not be funded. For a pledge of $13, you will get a thank you on social media.  For a pledge of $38, you will get a PDF of a special sketch book.  To learn more and to pledge money, go to: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/busybeingze/busy-being-ze?
