Crowdsourcing Mornings: Gear Fur – The Dog Leash Re-Invented

This is Crowdsourcing Mornings! This post takes place every weekday morning and highlights one crowdsourcing project I liked from Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or other crowdsourcing websites.

Please read our crowdsourcing guidelines at: https://geekalabama.com/media-kit-pr/geek-alabama-crowdsourcing-guidelines/

There’s so much excitement when you ask that question! Gear Fur is a project aimed at bringing more of that joy into the world, to make excursions with our dogs safer and more enjoyable.  Gear Fur began with a broken leash. My wife, Avonlea, was leaving the dog park with our two Siberian Huskies, Hoshi and Yuki, when a brand-new leash simply snapped. They all managed to get home safely that day, and it could have been a lot worse, but it made us realize that we needed gear we could actually trust.

After years of hard work, and 13 successful Kickstarter projects we steadily acquired all of the tools and know-how needed to make the perfect dog leash, designed and built to a higher standard.  After our close call, I began designing our own dog gear from the ground up, using custom machined hardware and high-quality materials. The goal was to make the best leash possible, whatever the cost. Avonlea and I went through dozens of prototypes before getting it perfect, but this is the result:

Feature 1- Redundant Latch Mechanism: The leash is very very unlikely to ever release accidentally, because both latches must be depressed simultaneously.

Feature 2 – Hyper Functionality: Push to connect, and squeeze to release: Making the bond between human and beast should be easy and graceful. And if you’re as clumsy as my wife, you need all the help you can get. She knows I’m joking… but seriously 😉

Feature 3 – Ball Bearing Swivel: When your dog pulls on its leash, most swivels lock up due to the increased friction, causing twists and tangles. Meanwhile, our ball bearing swivel remains smooth-as-butter, even under hundreds of pounds of tension.

Feature 4 – Padded Handle: If you have a powerful dog, prone to pulling arms out of sockets, it’s a relief to have some soft padding between your hand and their raw pulling force.

Feature 5 – Aircraft Grade Materials: Underneath the smooth anodized surface, you’ll find CNC machined components, made from heat-treated Aircraft-Grade Aluminum (6061-T6 and 7075-T6).

Feature 6 – Made in the USA with Quality Materials: All under one roof. From machining, to assembly, to sewing and shipping, we do it all right here. It’s not the cheapest way to make a leash, but QUALITY is our priority.

As of June 24th, this project has raised $3,000 of their $5,000 goal. This project has 13 days left to raise the $5,000 or it will not be funded. For a pledge of $39, you will get one Magnetic Leash Belt.  For a pledge of $49, you will get one Standard Leash.  To learn more and to pledge money, go to: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/520589318/gear-fur-the-dog-leash-re-invented?
