Roadscapes Wednesday: The One-Lane Bridge Shared By Cars And Trains

Advertisements

So this is very weird.  In New Zealand, there is a one lane bridge shared by both cars and trains.  There are no warning lights for cars to warn of a train coming.  So you could drive onto this bridge and encounter a train.  This bridge is near Hindon, on the South Island of New Zealand, there’s one of only two remaining one-lane road-rail bridges in the country.  No barriers, no lights, no sirens: if you’re driving across this, you need to make sure to listen out for the train horn.

Let YouTuber Tom Scott introduce you to this bridge below!
