Crowdsourcing Mornings: Tech DIY – Learn Electronics Through Sewing

This is Crowdsourcing Mornings! This post takes place every weekday morning and highlights one crowdsourcing project I liked from Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or other crowdsourcing websites.

Please read our crowdsourcing guidelines at: https://geekalabama.com/media-kit-pr/geek-alabama-crowdsourcing-guidelines/

Ji Sun Lee and Jaymes Dec are creative technology teachers who are passionate about introducing children and adults to the joy of making and exploring with electronics and creative technologies.  We believe that all children are natural makers and tinkerers, but many technology and engineering projects are not as appealing to girls as they are to boys.

Tech DIY was developed as a series of projects that use sewing and crafting skills to teach mothers and daughters about creative applications of technology. Over the years, we expanded the audience for Tech DIY to include all kids and adults who want to play and make with technology.  After nine years of workshops and research, we wrote a book published by Make Media. Tech DIY, Easy Electronics Projects for Parents and Kids, teaches about the fundamental concepts of electronic circuits and electricity through ten hands-on crafting projects.

While many of the supplies for these projects are available at craft stores, we know that it can be difficult to find some of the specialized electronic parts and high quality materials, like easy to use conductive thread and electronic components that you can sew.  So we created two kits that contain custom designed electronics for the projects in our book. We already have a manufacturing partner who we have worked with to supply our workshops. They can make all of the special parts needed for the kits, but we have to reach a minimum order to make it cost effective. That’s why we are coming to you, on Kickstarter!

As of May 20th, this project has raised $5,500 of their $30,000 goal. This project has 27 days left to raise the $30,000 or it will not be funded.  For a pledge of $39, you will get one Joy Kit.  For a pledge of $52, you will get one Joy Kit and Book.  To learn more and to pledge money, go to: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/882727383/tech-diy-learn-electronics-through-sewing?
