Time for the Alabama Weekend Roundup. This weekly post highlights different and unique events across Alabama or near Alabama that you should consider attending. So for this weekend, here are some events you should consider going too!

May 18-19 – Cheaha Challenge Gran Fondo Century & ULTRA Ride – Jacksonville, AL

The Northeast Alabama Bicycle Assoc. is proud to offer a wonderful event highlighting the beauty of our area. The Cheaha Challenge Century & ULTRA rides are the premier events for the bike club, and to make sure we have something for everyone, we offer a family ride, too, The Challenge/ULTRA, known as the “toughest ride in the South,” offer distance options of 24, 44, 62, 84, 100 and 124. The ULTRA is for experienced riders only, encompassing 12,835 feet of climbing. The Chief Ladiga Cruise is a kinder, gentler ride, which is on the paved rails-to-trail, the Chief Ladiga Trail.

May 18-19 – U.S. Canine Biathlon – Anniston, AL

The U.S. Canine Biathlon is VWK9’s annual event and fun weekend, where dog owner or dog handler & canine partner come together to test their bond and stamina over a tough 4-mile course with numerous obstacles, water, puzzles, and challenges.

May 17-18 – Limestone Sheriff’s Rodeo – Athens, AL

The Limestone Sheriff’s Rodeo is in its 37th year as a fund raiser for law enforcement training and equipment. In these years, fully equipped patrol cars were purchased at no cost to the taxpayers. This is a professional rodeo that draws competitors from all over the nation. The Queen Pageant is second to none and has promoted 5 winners on to become Miss Rodeo USA. Two nights of fierce competition and great family entertainment, with tremendous community support. The Greatest Show on Dirt!! Always the third weekend in May.

May 17-19 – Hangout Music Festival – Gulf Shores, AL

Hangout Music Festival is the first and only festival of its kind. The extraordinary beach backdrop and sandy walkways make Hangout Music Festival an alluring destination for music fans. May 17-18 – Poke Salat Festival – Arab, AL

35th Annual Poke Salat Festival in Downtown Arab. Family Friendly event. Activities include Artisan Demonstrations, arts and crafts vendors, Top Dog Competition, Side Dish Showdown, Battle of the Bands, Children’s costumed Fun Run, North Alabama’s biggest Bluegrass Jam Session, Scavenger Hunt for prizes, Buck Dancing Expo and Competition, Street Corner Pickin’ Bluegrass Competition, Street Painting by the Arab Jr High and High School Art Departments, Open Mic area for singing, staged entertainment, FREE Children’s Play area, games, food court, and of course, Poke Salat!

May 18 – Catfish Festival – Scottsboro, AL

Held along the banks of Lake Guntersville in Scottsboro, the annual Catfish Festival celebrates one of America’s favorite outdoor activities – fishing for catfish.. Recognized by Bon Appetit Appalachia as a great hometown family food & fun festival that includes fried catfish plates, arts & crafts show, Car, Truck, Motorcycle, Tractor Show, Concerts, Concessions, and a free kids area offering inflatables. Festival goers are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and enjoy the live entertainment, including gospel singing. Beginning at 11 a.m., the Shriner’s will be selling catfish dinners. Pets are welcome to join in on the festivities. A pet parade and costume contest is set for 12 p.m.

May 18 – Capital City Author Event – Montgomery, AL

The Author signing event will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2019 from 11:00 am – 4:00 pm CST at the Renaissance Hotel and Spa at the Convention Center, in downtown Montgomery. VIP Tickets for early entry include a special VIP Swag bag and general admission are available for purchase via Eventbrite.

May 18 – Montevallo Yoga Festival – Montevallo, AL

The Montevallo Yoga Festival, MoYo, will be held Saturday May 18, 2019 on the beautiful & historic University of Montevallo campus. The festival is a one-day event with the day divided into blocks of time during which people can select classes to attend led by the best teachers in the state! The classes cover a variety of yoga style, dance, meditation, nutrition, exercise science and more. The idea and goal of MoYo is to help connect people to the resources needed in creating healthier lifestyles.

Mentone Rhododendron Festival It’s that time of year again–Rhododendrons are flourishing, and the festival is here! May 18 – Creek Bank Festival – Leeds, AL

May 18 – Arley Day Festival, Car Show & Parade – Arley, AL

The 46th Arley Day Festival will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2019. May 17-18 – Logan Martin Lake Fest and Boat Show – Cropwell, AL

Alabama’s largest in-water boat show and festival is back for 2019, and this year promises to be the definitive event to kick off summer for lake lovers in Alabama. May 18 – Armed Forces Day Celebration – Fort McClellan, AL

Fort McClellan Alabama National Guard Training Center invites you to join them on Saturday, May 18th, as they celebrate and honor America’s Heroes.  The event will be held on base, is FREE, and open to the entire community. Located just off Highway 21, everyone is asked to enter through Galloway Gate, where you will be directed to the designated parking areas.  Gates open at 8:30 am with opening ceremony beginning promptly at 9:00 am on the Marshall Parade Field. Plan to arrive early; the first 100 guests receive an Armed Forces Day t-shirt, sponsored by Morale, Welfare, and Recreation.

Do Dah Day is a annual event held along Birmingham’s Highland Avenue with all monies raised donated to charities that benefit animals in the Birmingham & Jefferson County area.

May 18 – WBRC First Alert Weather Fest – Birmingham, AL

The WBRC First Alert Weather Fest is back and better than ever this year!  Join us Saturday, May 18 at the McWane Science Center from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.  The WBRC First Alert Weather team will be there, along with many guests, promoting severe weather safety.
