Crowdsourcing Mornings: WingLights360: Stop Dangerous Overtaking With A Single Tap

This is Crowdsourcing Mornings! This post takes place every weekday morning and highlights one crowdsourcing project I liked from Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or other crowdsourcing websites.

To address the issue of dangerous overtaking, the CYCL team realised there was a need to constantly highlight cyclists’ position on the road.  After months of rigorous testing, we are back on Kickstarter with our latest contribution to cycling safety. Welcome WingLights360.  Attaching at the handlebar ends, WingLights360 encourage drivers to pass further from cyclists thanks to their permanent white/red position lights that turn into flashing orange turn signals with a single tap.  Pressing and holding their button activates WingLights360s permanent light function, with white (front) and red (back) LEDs highlighting the riders’ dimensions.

With a single tap they transform into direction indicators, informing other road users of the cyclists’ intentions thanks to flashing orange LEDs.  WingLights360 provide riders with the all-round visibility and encourage drivers to maintain a safe passing distance.   The idea to use white (front) and red (back) lights at the end of the handlebars to communicate the bike’s exact dimensions was borrowed from the concept of ‘position lights’ that exist to make motor vehicles more visible.  Since the first WingLights launched, we received requests for a USB rechargeable version. We heard you and WingLights360 will come with a micro USB cable capable of a full charge in under 30 minutes!

As of October 4th, this project has raised $57,000 of their $10,992 goal. This project has 7 days left to raise as much as it can.  For a pledge of $62, you will get one WingLights 360.  For a pledge of $118, you will get two WingLights 360.  To learn more and to pledge money, go to:  https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1470807343/winglights360-stop-dangerous-overtaking-with-a-sin?
