This is Crowdsourcing Mornings! This post takes place every weekday morning and highlights one crowdsourcing project I liked from Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or other crowdsourcing websites.
My name is Colten Lindsey, the creator of Unimo. I was born with a genetic disease called Cystic Fibrosis (CF). I’ve been told it’s more difficult for me to breathe than it is for most people. I’ve never known anything different though, and have no way of knowing that’s true. I’ve been in-and-out of the hospital countless times, including 18 months being tethered to a 24/7 IV fighting a rare mycobacterium growing in my lungs. I worked part-time as a barista at Starbucks, and developed the Unimo concept in my spare time. Being told I would die young since childhood (and coming close a few times in recent years) instilled in me a desire to enjoy life to its fullest.
So, I made a conscious decision to actively pursue things that bring me joy, and leave anything otherwise behind. I love creating solutions for problems I encounter everyday, and my hope is to spread the joy of simple convenience as far as I can! Originally intended to suspend things beneath kitchen cabinets, I fabricated the first prototype from sheet metal. You simply clipped it onto the lip of your cabinets, and it suspended your iPad beneath them. After my Engineering partner had to bow out for personal reasons, I had to find another partner — or design it myself. So I taught myself 3D CAD design through Google and Youtube, and began doing whatever I could to get working prototypes produced!
When I discovered 3D Printers available for resident use, I began printing 3D Prototypes at the Public Library, where I worked for hours at a time as they printed. Unimo is filled with people who do what they love. Once I decided to surround myself with people that lifted me up, I noticed they shared an affinity for pursuing their passion. I realized the true impact having a team doing something they love has on the quality of work they produce. Our goal is to create the most relevant attachments for things you want to hang in your home. Unimo Perspectives is a free membership where you can participate in surveys and try prototype things before they are available for purchase. You tell us what to hang next, and be part of ongoing development for Unimo Things!
As of September 17th, this project has raised $2,000 of their $10,000 goal. This project has 25 days left to raise the $10,000 or it will not be funded. For a pledge of $19, you will get one pocket mount. For a pledge of $35, you will get two pocket mounts. To learn more and to pledge money, go to: http://GAe.fnd.to/unimo
