Good News Fridays: Arc Of Calhoun And Cleburne Counties Lip Sync Battle 2018

UPDATE: Post written by Kelsey Butler from Calhoun County Insight

A night of fun for the whole family! The third annual Lip Sync Battle presented by the Arc of Calhoun and Cleburne Counties is August 18.

Pick your favorite song for a moment in the spotlight or gather a group of friends to piece together a performance in an effort to raise money for individuals with intellectual and other developmental disabilities.

Pati Tiller, Outreach Coordinator for The Arc, says the Lip Sync Battle is a fundraiser for some of The Arc’s programs. “Most [programs] are free,” she says, “the only one we charge for is our summer day programs.”

For a $25 fee, you are given two slots in the show. “There’s an Act 1 and Act 2,” Tiller explains. There is a five-minute limit on each number, and a limit of six people per group.

The Lip Sync Battle begins at 7:00 pm at The Arc of Calhoun and Cleburne Counties, 401 Noble Street, Anniston. Admission is $5 per person, $3 for children and senior citizens.

Three titles are awarded at the end of the battle, Judge’s Favorite, Audience Favorite, and the “Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is” fundraising award.

A panel of judges will choose one-act to receive the Judge’s Favorite award, and the audience will choose a favorite by voting. Everyone receives one vote with admission and may purchase additional votes for $1 a piece. In addition, each act is encouraged to do individual fundraising prior to the show. The act which raises the most funds receives the ‘Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is” Fundraising Award.

When choosing a fund-raiser, Tiller says, “We wanted something different in the community. And we wanted something that people of any ability could do.”

As the event grows each year, Tiller encourages businesses to get involved. “We have a lot of laughs,” she says. “In the past, we’ve had the Pokemon theme song performed, we’ve had cowboys and broadway songs performed… We’re raising money, but we definitely want to have fun.”
