Time for the Alabama Weekend Roundup. This weekly post highlights different and unique events across Alabama or near Alabama that you should consider attending. So for this weekend, here are nine events you should consider going too!
August 3-4 – Secret Stages Music Festival – Avondale Brewing Company – Birmingham, AL
Secret Stages is a two-day walking music festival that takes place in Birmingham, AL on the first weekend of August. For two nights a diverse group of music enthusiasts are treated to around 60 bands performing on the stages of neighborhood establishments. These acts were drawn from the nation, the region, and our own backyard, and all are up-and-coming or buzz-worthy acts on the cusp of making a big splash. All Secret Stages venues are within a two-block radius, so our patrons can come to the city center, park, and have walking access to dozens of bands, a variety of venues, and delectable restaurants.

August 4 – Woodstock 5k and Kidstock 1k – Anniston High School, Anniston, AL
The Historic Woodstock 5K and Kidstock 1 Mile! Woodstock is a fun, healthy, community event where a record 1,591 runners and walkers came in 2015 to shake their tail feathers for others.

August 3 – Chirps and Chips – Birmingham Botanical Gardens – Birmingham, AL
Alabama Wildlife Center’s Junior Board, Raptor Force, is hosting its 7th annual Chirps and Chips fundraiser benefiting AWC. It will be held at Birmingham Botanical Gardens. A fun-filled casino-themed night that includes games; live entertainment; a silent auction; complimentary food & drink; and personal encounters with our live raptors.

August 4 – 154th Commemorative of the Battle of Mobile Bay – Historic Fort Gaines – Dauphin Island, AL
The event highlights Fort Gaines integral role in the Battle of Mobile Bay. The cannon will be fired every forty-five minutes in honor of the soldiers that fought in this pivotal battle. Come and experience a living history day for the whole family. Blacksmith demonstration will be on hand all day in the Fort’s Blacksmith Shop. There will be demonstrations of military drills, training as well as the firing of the cannons, and much more.

August 4 – Pelican Paddle Canoe and Kayak Race – Tonsmeire Weeks Bay Resource Center – Fairhope, AL
The Weeks Bay Foundation’s 6th Annual Pelican Paddle, is a fun and family-friendly canoe, kayak and paddle board race for all ages and skill levels. Plus, there’s a 7-mile pro option for the serious paddlers, and a non-competitive Eco-Tour of Weeks Bay. 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners will be awarded in the following divisions: Men’s Kayak, Women’s Kayak, Junior Kayak, Pro Kayak, Men’s Paddle Board, Women’s Paddle Board, Tandem Craft, and Non-Traditional (single canoes, pedal kayaks, etc.). The Eco-Tour begins after the racers take off. Entry includes lunch, water/soft drinks, beer tickets, a Pelican Paddle reusable water bottle, and a chance to win a kayak and other prizes!

August 2-5 – World’s Longest Yard Sale – NE Alabama
The World’s Longest Yard Sale takes place each first Thursday through Sunday in August. The sale begins in Gadsden, AL at Noccalula Falls Park and continues up the Lookout Mountain Parkway towards Chattanooga. The sale is free, takes place in all weather, and vendors set up in yards, churches, anywhere there is open space along the route.

August 3-4 – Ardmore Police Reserve Rodeo – John Barnes Park – Ardmore, AL/TN
Dust off your cowboy boots and grab our cowboy hat for the Ardmore Police Reserve Rodeo – Bull riding, calf roping, barrel racing and more benefiting the Ardmore AL/TN Police Reserves and Fire Department. Open 6-10 p.m. in John Barnes Park – behind the Piggly Wiggly on Main Street.
August 4 – Sportsplex Kids Triathlon – Opelika, AL
The Opelika Sportsplex Triathlon for Kids will be held on Saturday, August 4, 2018 at the Opelika Sportsplex and Aquatics Center for ages 6-15 (5 year olds may participate in the Kids Triathlon or the Small Fry Tri). Ages 6-8: Swim 50 yards Bike 1.5 miles Run 500 yards Ages 9-11: Swim 100 yards Bike 3 miles Run 1 mile Ages 12-15: Swim 150 yards Bike 6 miles Run 2 miles Participants will compete based on their age as of 12/31/17.
