Music Thursdays: Mark Nevin – Dolly Said No To Elvis

How about a song based on a real-life story?  In 1974, Dolly Parton recorded the song “I Will Always Love You.”  The song went to status, and while the song was super hot, she was approached by another singer to do a cover of that song.  That person was none other than Elvis Presley.  Presley’s manager, Colonel Tom Parker, asked Parton if Elvis could perform a cover of the song and sign over half of the publishing rights to the song.  And Dolly Parton refused!  This real-life event is the basis for this music video.

In “Dolly Said No To Elvis,” singer Mark Nevin performs while animator Heather Colbert tells the story of this event.  The video took two months to animate on Heather’s grandmas table.  The stop-motion animation is really good, and it’s a pretty good music video.  You will enjoy watching it below!
