Learn More About Rocket City Weatherfest 2018 In Huntsville

This weekend is a busy one across Alabama with events.  If you are interested by weather and live in North Alabama, there is a event you should attend!  Rocket City Weatherfest is happening on Saturday, February 24 in Huntsville.  Here is some info from their website.

Are you fascinated by the weather? Are you or your kids curious about why tornadoes occur or why the sky is blue? Do you want to become a meteorologist? Are you curious about storm chasing? Come ask your questions and find your answers at Rocket City Weather Fest at the UAH Charger Union. Local Huntsville student and professional chapters of the American Meteorological Society and National Weather Association will host this FREE Weather Festival that is great for weather enthusiasts of all ages! Come sit in real storm chasing and weather research vehicles, learn what it takes to become a SKYWARN spotter, attend Severe Weather 101, check out storm shelters, and participate in hands-on demonstrations and kids’ crafts.

Rocket City Weather Fest is pleased to announce that this year will focus on tropical cyclones! This year’s keynote speaker is Major Christopher Dyke of the US Air Force Hurricane Hunters! Numerous exhibitors will also be setup allowing you the opportunity to interact directly with them; including the Huntsville-Madison County EMA, The Huntsville National Weather Service office, North Alabama/Southern Middle Tennessee SKYWARN, UAH’s College of Science, and UAH’s Atmospheric Science Department. More exhibitors are being added every day.

Rocket City Weatherfest is located on the campus of the University of Alabama in Huntsville at the Charger Union. Admission and parking are free.  Major activities include:

  • Weather Briefing at 10:15 am
  • SKYWARN Spotter Training at 11:00 am
  • Weather Balloon Launch 12:45 pm
  • Keynote Speaker: Hurricane Hunter Major Christopher Dyke  1:30 pm
