This is Crowdsourcing Mornings! This post takes place every weekday morning and highlights one crowdsourcing project I liked from Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or other crowdsourcing websites.
One evening when Bailey Harris was eight years old, she was watching the television program Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey with her family. In that episode, host and narrator Neil deGrasse Tyson said, “The planets, the stars, the galaxies, we ourselves and all of life—the same star stuff.” Bailey was so excited by this idea that she immediately went to the family computer, opened a new document, and started writing what eventually became her first book, so that she could share what she had learned with children everywhere.
Bailey worked with her father over the next year to develop a story that they felt would teach children this idea, along with other areas of science such as evolution and astronomy, most effectively. After various revisions with the help of feedback from numerous scientists, parents, and children, the story for My Name is Stardust was finalized. The book was launched through a highly successful 2016 Kickstarter campaign that raised over $20,000. My Name is Stardust was released in 2017 and has sold thousands of copies worldwide.
The second book in the series, Stardust Explores the Solar System, starts off with the Big Bang, explains the formation of our Sun and the planets, then takes young readers on an exciting ride through the Solar System. The book is in the process of editing and finalizing artwork. The public will receive early access to the book through a Kickstarter campaign that will launch on January 30th, 2018. Stardust Explores the Solar System will be featured at Book Expo and BookCon in NYC in June, followed by an international book release in October.
As of February 16th, this project has raised $14,000 of their $5,800 goal. This project has 14 days left to raise as much as it can! For a pledge of $12, you will get one paperback book copy. For a pledge of $18, you will get both paperback books in the series.
