Crowdsourcing Mornings: Augmented Reality Glasses For Autism

This is Crowdsourcing Mornings! This post takes place every weekday morning and highlights one crowdsourcing project I liked from Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or other crowdsourcing websites.

The Brain Power Autism System is a wearable, computerized life coach running a family of game-like apps based in neuroscience from MIT and Harvard. The apps empower children and adults on the autism spectrum to teach themselves social and cognitive “life skills” crucial to happy self-sufficiency.  The Empower Me System aims to empower children and adults all along the autism spectrum to teach themselves practical life skills, and assess their progress numerically. They hope to extend this empowerment right across the human condition.

Based on brain science from MIT and Harvard, these apps facilitate life skills like language, eye contact, control of behaviors, conversation skills, emotional understanding, meltdown prevention, social connection, and more. Using their wearable classroom will help people with autism to better understand, interact, and enjoy the world around them.  Empower Me includes several components that work together to provide you with the full Brain Power experience: (1) smartglasses – Google Glass; (2) Empower Me software, which are autism related science-based apps that run on Google Glass; (3), an Empower Me companion app that runs on your phone or tablet (iOS or Android); and (4) a web portal where you can view gameplay data, high scores, and predictions about your/your child’s progress. All components of the Empower Me System work together seamlessly.

As of November 8th, this project has raised $49,000 of their $10,000 goal.  This project has 30 days left to raise as much as it can!  For a pledge of $15, you will get updates on the project.  For a pledge of $700, you will be able to help a family in need and receive letters of gratitude.  To learn more and to pledge money, go to:
