This is Crowdsourcing Mornings! This post takes place every weekday morning and highlights one crowdsourcing project I liked from Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or other crowdsourcing websites.
Just over 7 years ago, after a freak accident, medical experts informed Kim Chambers that she had a 1% chance of walking unassisted again. Diagnosed with Acute Compartment Syndrome in her right leg, and a mere 30 minutes from amputation, she felt determined to prove the doctors wrong. Despite much uncertainty and multiple surgeries, Kim spent 2 years rehabilitating her leg and has regained almost full functionality. Five years ago, as part of her rehabilitation, Kim started to swim in a pool for the first time since primary school. On a dare, she went swimming in the chilly waters of the San Francisco Bay and fell in love.
Since then, she has completed numerous open water marathon swims around the world. Kim is only the 3rd woman and 6th person ever to complete the Ocean’s Seven challenge – the open water swimming equivalent to the Seven Summits of mountaineering. These seven swims – that span the globe – are chosen for their particularly difficult water conditions (strong currents, cold water, etc) with significant wildlife risks such as sharks and jellyfish. KIM SWIMS is a film which tells the story of her improbable and inspiring path to becoming one of the most adventurous and accomplished open water endurance swimmers in the world. The film examines the cyclical force and depth of both the human spirit and water, each relative to the other.
It offers a spotlight into what propels her (and maybe all of us), to push forward, renew purpose, pursue our passions and deepest potentials. In doing so, what universal message does it yield and what does it tell us about the seemingly inexplicable power that water has over us?
As of November 2nd, this project has raised around $34,000 of their $35,000 goal. This project only has 3 days left to raise the $35,000 or it will not be funded! For a pledge of $25, you will get a digital download of the film. For a pledge of $50, you will get a custom designed silicone swim cap with the film’s logo and an inspirational quote from Kim, plus digital download of the film.
