Crowdsourcing Mornings: Marian Call Standing Stones Album

Geek Alabama Crowdsourcing Mornings

This is Crowdsourcing Mornings! This post takes place every weekday morning and highlights one crowdsourcing project I liked from Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or other crowdsourcing websites.

Marian Call has been making music with all her might for a lot of years. It’s been a joy and a privilege to meet so many of the fans and make art with you since 2007.  Her career is just a drop in the ocean of incredible things being made by independent folks just like her — but she is so happy to be your drop.  She is making her ninth album now, tentatively titled Standing Stones. This summer in Austin they recorded the rhythm section, so the foundation is already laid, and it sounds fantastic.  Expect nice full electric guitars, some big fat snare, some Hammond organ, even brass and backup singers. She is making the songs that help you drum your hands *really* hard on your steering wheel or your desk at the end of the day. So join her and let’s finish this record!

Standing Stones is a big bold step for her artistically. She has things to say and she is bursting to say them! These songs are all about bones and stones and stories. She is writing about the stories we tell ourselves (true and false), the stories that become our lives, the stories we all have in common, the recurring characters and themes in our narrative, and how we can change the narrative.  She will not promise a delivery date for the new record at this time, but her target is the first half of 2016 if all goes well. The more they raise above the goal, the more she can *just work on the record.* If they just barely meet their goal, she will have to spend a lot of time touring, fundraising, and recording smaller projects to make ends meet, which will be lots of fun as always — though it will slow up production.

But the music will be made. This is music she MUST make.  She will release Standing Stones once is it undoubtedly completely awesome. And it will exist thanks to you guys. Let’s do this.

As of August 20th, this project has raised around $43,000 of their $25,000 goal. This project only has 13 days left to raise as much as it can!  For a pledge of $15, you will get a digital download of the album.  For a pledge of $42, you will get a physical CD of the album.  To learn more and to pledge money, go to:
