Crowdsourcing Mornings: AwareCar

Geek Alabama Crowdsourcing Mornings

This is Crowdsourcing Mornings! This post takes place every weekday morning and highlights one crowdsourcing project I liked from Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or other crowdsourcing websites.

Their initial goal: Let’s impart smartness to cars at an affordable price.  AwareCar is the world’s first system to use context awareness to make cars smarter. Their device contextually connects your car and phone. Their free app understands when you park or drive your car and does tasks magically. Simply toss the ultra compact device into your glove box and GO!  In addition to matching features offered by other smart car gadgets, AwareCar is world’s first app to remember parking levels/floor. It differentiates them from every other smart car gadget in the market currently. They are able to do this by using the newest sensors in your phone that track elevation.

If you choose, AwareCar can optionally set your Android phone to Do Not Disturb mode while driving. This mode reduces interruptions and removes the urge to text. If you enable it, this feature will automatically trigger whenever you drive.  Overwhelming number of backers have requested abilities to track and interact with other objects such as handbags, RC copters, pets, bikes, motorcycles, etc. If they hit $100K they plan to release an additional single purpose “Aware” app that would work with any object. And of course this new additional app will be FREE for all our backers.  The device is almost ready. They have tested the device with an iOS prototype. Work remains to be done in improving signal strength, its calibration and ensuring the device works well for all sorts of vehicles. They want to make it work flawlessly even when inside the glovebox of your car.

As of August 18th, this project has raised around $43,000 of their $15,000 goal. This project only has 9 days left to raise as much as it can!  For a pledge of $9, you will get one AwareCar device.  For a pledge of $18, you will get two AwareCar devices.  To learn more and to pledge money, go to:
