Crowdsourcing Weekends: Touchjet Wave, Eco Global Survival, iBackPack Revolution

Geek Alabama Crowdsourcing

This is Crowdsourcing Weekends! This post highlights three different crowdsourcing projects I liked from Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or other crowdsourcing websites.

Touchjet WAVE

WAVE is an Android device that attaches to the top of any flat screen TV and makes it touch-enabled. The WAVE uses bleeding edge infrared technology to track finger movements and taps across the screen. The data is sent to the WAVE’s LPU (light processing unit) which translates these infrared inputs into gestures and taps that the Android system can understand.  Touch the screen to make things happen. Download millions of apps. Play games. Watch movies. Present interactively. Navigate the screen more easily – with touch or your phone.

This device turns any TV into a giant tablet!  You can play games, browse the internet, stream movies and music, share photos, all without touching your TV screen.  The gadget works using infrared technology.  And with the Touchjet app, anyone in the room can navigate the screen and share photos, videos and files from their phone right to the TV. And no need to sweat compatibility issues – you can use any Android or iOS device.

As of August 16th, this project has raised around $300,000 of their $100,000 goal. This project only has 26 days left to raise as much as it can!  For a pledge of $119, you will get one Touchjet Wave pack.  For a pledge of $225, you will get two Touchjet Wave packs.  To learn more and to pledge money, go to:

Eco – Global Survival Game

Enter the world of Eco, where you must collaborate to build civilization in a finite shared world, using resources from a fully simulated ecosystem where your every action affects the lives of countless species.  Will you and your fellow citizens collaborate successfully, creating laws to guide the actions of the group, finding a balance that takes resources from the ecosystem without damaging it? Or will the world be destroyed by short-sighted choices that pollute the environment in exchange for immediate resource gains? Or, do players act too slowly, and the world is consumed by a disaster that could have been avoided if you developed the right technology? In Eco, you must find a balance as a group if the world is to survive.

Eco is a survival game in a global sense, where it is not just the individual or group who is threatened, but the world itself. The world of Eco will be home to a population of thousands of simulated plants and animals, each living out their lives on a server running 24 hours a day, growing, feeding and reproducing, with their existence highly dependent on other species.  Enter humans into this equation, and things get complicated. It is the role of players to thrive in this environment by using resources from the world to eat, build, discover, learn and invent.  However, every resource they take affects the environment it is taken from, and without careful planning and understanding of the ecosystem, lands can become deforested and polluted, habitats destroyed, and species left extinct.  In the extreme, the food supply of the ecosystem can be destroyed, along with all human life on it, resulting in server-wide perma-death. Eco is a game where the player’s actions have meaningful consequences.

As of August 16th, this project has raised around $60,000 of their $100,000 goal. This project only has 24 days left to raise the $100,000 or it will not be funded!  For a pledge of $10, you will get your name as a credit in the game.  For a pledge of $20, you will get one discounted Steam key for Eco at launch.  To learn more and to pledge money, go to:
