Good News Fridays: Clear The Shelters On August 15th

Geek Alabama Good News Fridays

This Saturday, August 15th is a very special day!  Numerous animals shelters around America are participating in Clear The Shelters.  On August 15, shelters across the country are taking part in a nationwide push to place pets in forever homes. Hundreds of shelters have agreed to cut the cost of adoption for the one-day Clear the Shelters event, organized in partnership with NBC Owned Television Stations and Telemundo Station Group.

Thousands of dogs and cats will be available on Saturday as part of Clear the Shelters, an adoption initiative sponsored by 11 NBC owned television stations, the New England regional news network necn, and 17 Telemundo owned stations. More than 400 shelters are making animals available throughout the day, many at a reduced cost.  Even if a shelter near you is not participating, still go out and adopt a furry friend!

About 7.6 million animals enter shelters across the country each year, 3.9 million dogs and 3.4 million cats, according to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Each year an equal number are adopted or euthanized, about 2.7 million for each case. About 649,000 strays are returned to their owners, the majority of them dogs.  Get out there Saturday and adopt!  Learn more at: http://www.cleartheshelters.com/

  1. I’m glad to hear the shelters are doing this! Too many precious animals are getting euthanized, and I can tell you from experience, shelter rescues make the best pets!
