Crowdsourcing Weekends: Livall Helmet, GovTrack Insider, The Barn Film

Geek Alabama Crowdsourcing

This is Crowdsourcing Weekends! This post highlights three different crowdsourcing projects I liked from Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or other crowdsourcing websites.

LIVALL Bling Helmet

LIVALL Bling Helmet is smart because it has built-in Windbreak Mic, 3-axis G-sensor, Bluetooth Speaker and LEDs on the top and back of the helmet. All these things together make our Bling Helmet extraordinary.  With the Windbreak Mic and Bluetooth Speaker, you can answer or make phone calls when it’s necessary. You can enjoy your ‘me time’ without worrying people may not be able to reach you.  When riding in a group, the Windbreak Mic and Bluetooth Speaker enables cyclists to communicate with each other by walkie-talkie. Furthermore, text messages sent through the LIVALL Riding App will automatically be converted into voice messages for riders that are in riding mode. No more need to yell at each other.

With the built-in Bluetooth speakers, you can listen to songs with LIVALL Bling Helmet and select/start/pause songs with LIVALL Bling Jet (remote control). Choose the music that matches your speed and cycle to the beats!  We add the 3-axis G-sensor to the helmet to make sure you can get help in time in case you fall when cycling alone. Once the G-sensor senses a unusual gravity acceleration, the emergency signals on the helmet will be turned on and an SOS alert will be sent to your emergency contacts automatically.  LIVALL Bling Helmet also comes with colored LED tail lights at the back of the helmet which serve as direction indicators. Furthermore, colored outline LEDs at the top of the helmet will make it very easy for you to be seen. The earlier others see you, the further danger is away from you.

As of August 9th, this project has raised around $95,000 of their $20,000 goal. This project only has 40 days left to raise as much as it can!  For a pledge of $100, you will get one Livall Bling Helmet.  For a pledge of $199, you will get two Livall Bling Helmets.  To learn more and to pledge money, go to:

GovTrack Insider

Knowledge is power. And Joshua Tauberer wants to give everyone the power to shape our government. That’s why he built more than a decade ago to help Americans keep tabs on the U.S. Congress. Now nearly 10 million people use GovTrack each year to read bills and track votes. Students, concerned citizens, lobbyists, journalists, and even Congress itself all use GovTrack.  It is so important to understand how our government works to be good citizens and effective advocates for issues that matter to us, and GovTrack can get you up to speed on bills in Congress that matter to you. It can put you in touch with your representative and arm you with facts before the next election.

But they want GovTrack to do more, and to do that he needs your help.  Today GovTrack is fully automated. There’s no staff here. All of the information on the site is collected automatically from the official record. But the official record can’t tell them everything they want to know about what’s going on in Congress.  With your help they will hire a full time researcher to add more information about bills to GovTrack. The researcher will report on the political context behind legislation and will tell us what bills really mean.  Their goal is to raise $35,000 to continue posting bill summaries and writing GovTrack Insider for another six months. That will let them pay a full time researcher to write summaries on major legislation and post daily reports (when Congress is in session).

As of August 9th, this project has raised around $15,000 of their $35,000 goal. This project only has 32 days left to raise the $35,000 or it will not be funded!  For a pledge of $35, you will get an invitation to an online webinar about GovTrack.  For a pledge of $100, you will get an invitation to a group chat about GovTrack.  To learn more and to pledge money, go to:

The Barn Film

Its Halloween 1989, best friends Sam and Josh are trying to enjoy what’s left of their final Devil’s Night before graduating high school. But trouble arises when the two pals and a group of friends take a detour on their way to a rock concert, finding an old abandoned barn and awakening the evil inside. Now it’s up to Sam and Josh to find a way to protect their friends and defeat the creatures that lurk within “The Barn”.  They are looking to raise at least $15,000 dollars to help with finishing costs, but a large portion of that total ends up being fees, shipping, and fulfillment- so every dollar helps.

They actually started shooting the film about a year and a half ago and they are currently wrapping up all the loose ends. They were fortunate enough to have Fangoria feature them as an exclusive story and trailer reveal back in October 2014 and February 2015- which led to tons of exposure for the film.  So much attention and hype has surrounded the film from all around the world that especially now more than ever we want to make sure the audience gets what they want, and deserve.  The plan right now is to hopefully have a screening of the movie by the end of 2015, but as of right now they don’t have any plans for a full release of the movie other than getting a copy through this campaign.

As of August 9th, this project has raised around $14,000 of their $15,000 goal. This project only has 8 days left to raise the $15,000 or it might not be funded!  For a pledge of $20, you will get a DVD of The Barn.  For a pledge of $25, you will get a singed CD soundtrack from the movie.  To learn more and to pledge money, go to:
