This is Crowdsourcing Mornings! This post takes place every weekday morning and highlights one crowdsourcing project I liked from Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or other crowdsourcing websites.
Ryan Jones and Shawn Willis are from Notice Pictures (www.noticepictures.com), and they want to introduce you to Scott Wiener. They met Scott in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, when he pointed them to Lombardi’s Pizzeria, which was feeding the neighborhood by powering their shop with car batteries. It would be easy to call Scott a pizza expert, but that wouldn’t do him justice. He runs a successful tour business in NYC, where he leads visitors to some of the best and most historic pizzerias in the world, teaching the history and science of pizza making. Scott’s a legend in the pizza industry.
He eats 15 slices per week, writes a monthly column in Pizza Today magazine, judges pizza competitions, and–oh, yeah–he’s the Guinness World Record holder for the largest collection of pizza boxes, now numbering nearly 1,000 different boxes from 55 countries, selections of which are currently touring through gallery spaces in the U.S. and Europe, with tentative exhibitions planned for Asia and Latin America. In his spare time, he founded and organizes Slice Out Hunger, an annual event, which has raised over $70,000 for hunger relief organizations in NYC.
In “Scott’s Pizza Tours,” you’ll experience the world’s most beloved food, through the eyes of the man who loves it most. You’ll witness how Scott, by living his passion every day, has inspired others to take their own leaps of faith in order to follow their dreams. And, yes, you’ll figure out how someone is able to store 975 pizza boxes in a Brooklyn apartment. They’ve already been filming for 6 months, and have had the privilege of attending numerous pizza tours, public events Scott has hosted, as well as the unbelievable International Pizza Expo in Las Vegas (yes, that’s a real thing). They’ve conducted interviews with Scott, his friends and family, as well as some of the nation’s top pizzeria owners who count Scott as a friend and colleague.
They need your help to raise the funds that will carry them over the finish line. Scott’s reputation extends far beyond New York City, and they need to do a little traveling to speak with some of the people who’ve been impacted by knowing him. Funds raised will mostly go toward finishing costs (colorist, sound mixing, musical score, motion graphics, etc.) If they can raise more than $35k, they’ll be able to travel with Scott to the UK for the opening of his latest gallery exhibition of pizza boxes, and also make a trip with him to pizza’s birthplace: Italy!
As of July 17th, this project has raised around $12,000 of their $35,000 goal. This project only has 20 days left to raise the $35,000 or it will not be funded! For a pledge of $25, you will get a digital download of the film. For a pledge of $75, you will get a digital download of the film plus a signed copy of the Viva La Pizza book.
