Enjoy Some Alabama Road Rules For The Upcoming 4th Of July Holiday Weekend

If you are hitting the road this holiday weekend, here are a few hints to help you along the way:

They can get you coming AND going – Alabama State Troopers have radar technology that can catch you speeding from behind or from in front. Troopers just received a grant to add another 25 “Stalker 2X” speed detectors to supplement the 400 already deployed. So SLOW DOWN!

Beware the Marine Police – You can also get busted speeding in a boat, courtesy of the Alabama Marine Police, which has similar technology. When boating season is over, Marine Police hit the highways to help troopers catch speeders.

Talking on the cellphone a “no-no”… for young drivers – Alabama bans 16- and 17-year-olds who have a driver’s license less than six months from talking on a cell phone. Some Alabama cities – Montgomery is one – ban all ages from talking on a handheld device while driving. The state bans all ages from texting, emailing and Instant Messaging while driving.

Aggressive driving leads to death – According to AAA, aggressive driving accounts for more than half of traffic fatalities. “Aggressive” means racing, tailgating, seeking confrontation with drivers and speeding.

Be cool about coolant – Before taking that five-hour trip to the Gulf, or a 25-hour trip to Los Angeles, check the coolant level in your radiator to make sure it is full and has the correct mixture of coolant and water.

As always, don’t drink and drive, buckle up and change lanes when possible for law enforcement or disabled vehicles on the shoulder.
