Digimon Is Coming Back While Phineas And Ferb Is Riding Into The Sunset

Two of my favorite cartoons, Phineas And Ferb and Digimon, both have some big news this week.  First, let’s talk about the return of Digimon: Digital Monsters!  When I was younger, I loved watching this on FOX Kids.  Since the second season, the show has fallen off.  And I thought the franchise needed to return to its roots of the first two seasons.  Now, a couple of big changes are coming to the new series.  First, the entire voice cast is coming back to voice their characters.  Second, the animation is going to look crisper and cleaner.  And third, this will be a 6 part movie series called Digimon Adventure Tri.

Here is the English trailer.  Not much was revealed in the trailer, but the animation looked awesome!

The 6 part series will start in Japanese theaters on November 21st, 2015.  But as of right now, there is no word about this series coming to America.  I highly doubt you will be seeing this in theaters in America.  Most likely, you will either see this on TV like on Adult Swim, streaming on the internet, or on DVD.  This series is going for an older audience giving the long time fans the story they loved but with a tougher feel.  So you will see more adults enjoying this than the kids.  I guess we will see how mature the story will be.

The series picks up Digimon Adventures story threads exactly where they ended 15 years ago.  And if you remember how it ended, the group got to keep their Digimon on Earth, and the last scene featured the group with their families together, with the kids having a Digimon of their own.  Digimon Adventure Tri will star the series original protagonist, Taichi, who is now a 17 year-old high school student.  Everyone in the first adventure series will be back, but what about Davis, Yolei, and Cody?  I guess we will wait and see what happens.

So I am stoked about this!  Not bad for the 15th anniversary of Digimon!  While Digimon is riding high, another popular series is about to ride into the sunset.  Disney’s Phineas and Ferb is about to end, and it has been an awesome ride!  Phineas and Ferb has been going strong for eight years, but the time has come to retire this classic cartoon.  The final episode called “Last Day of Summer” will feature the summer season coming to a close and it’s Candace’s last chance to bust her brothers.

Yep, her plan fails, but she is presented with an opportunity to redo the day when she sets off Dr. Doofenshmirtz’s Do-Over-Inator, which results in other consequences like rips in the space-time continuum, the shortening of days, and the disappearance of her brothers.  The last episode will air on Friday, June 12 at 8 pm Central on Disney Channel and DisneyXD.  Before the finale, DisneyXD will do the ultimate Phineas and Ferb marathon, airing every episode made beginning on Tuesday, June 9 at 7 pm Central.  That’s 73 hours straight of Phineas and Ferb!

But while Phineas and Ferb is ending, Dan Povenmire and Jeff “Swampy” Marsh will be working on a new animated series called Mikey Murphy’s Law.  The series will premiere in 2017 and the story introduces Mikey, the fictional great-great-great-great grandson of the Murphy’s Law namesake.  I wonder if this will premiere at the same time the new DuckTales premieres?  Man, from the first episode, it’s been a good ride for Phineas and Ferb!
