No! I mean, I love the ice cream from Blue Bell, but I do understand why the company is recalling everything they have. After they found their Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream half gallons having Listeria monocytogenes, the company ordered a recall of all of their ice cream, frozen yogurt, sherbet and frozen snacks products. Here is CEO and President Paul Kruse apologizing for this situation.
Listeria monocytogenes is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headaches, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
Paul Kruse is committed to doing the 100 percent right thing, and the best way to do that is to take all of their products off the market until they can be confident that they are all safe. They are also starting new procedures like Test and Hold to make sure their products are safe. I for one are glad that Blue Bell is doing the right thing here, and making sure everyone is safe. I hope we will see their ice cream again in stores before Summer comes around!
