Music Thursdays: Blues Traveler Coming To East Alabama

Geek Alabama Music Thursdays

This Friday night in downtown Anniston, the band Blues Traveler is coming to perform, for free!  The band is compromised by singer and harmonica player John Popper, guitarist Chan Kinchla, drummer Brendan Hill, bassist Tad Kinchla and keyboardist Ben Wilson. Tad Kinchla and Ben Wilson joined the band following the death of original bassist Bobby Sheehan in 1999.

The band’s music covers a variety of genres, including blues rock, psychedelic rock, folk rock, soul, and Southern rock. They are known for extensive use of segues in their live performances, and were considered a key part of the re-emerging jam band scene of the 1990s.  The band has a couple of very popular songs!  One song is called “Hook.”

The other popular song is called “Run-Around.”

The band also has plenty of other great songs!  For example, here is a music video and song recorded in 2001 called “Girl Inside My Head.”

Here is another music video featuring animals flying in the air called “You, Me, And Everything.”

Here is another music video called “But Anyway.”

And here is another great music video called “You Don’t Have To Love Me.”

So, want to see Blues Traveler, and for free?  You can this Friday night at the Model City Music Festival at Zinn Park in downtown Anniston.

The music festival is a part of the larger Noble Street Festival weekend.  If you want to see Blues Traveler, the show starts at 7 pm.  Please make sure and get there early, because crowds are going to be big!    2015 will be the 20th anniversary of their Grammy and the release of a new exciting and dramatically different album, from a band that has learned to be ever-changing while sticking to the roots of who they are.

Over the course of their illustrious career, Blues Traveler have sold more than 10 million combined units worldwide, played over 2,000 live shows in front of more than 30 million people, and, in “Run-Around,” had the longest- charting radio single in Billboard history, which earned them a Grammy for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals. Their movie credits include Blues Brothers 2000, Kingpin, Wildflowers and others. A television favorite, they have been featured on Saturday Night Live, Austin City Limits, and VH1’s Behind the Music, and they hold the record for the most appearances of any artist on The Late Show with David Letterman.

So, having Blues Traveler visiting Anniston is a really big deal!  Come out and enjoy the free concert!  And check back for pictures and videos from the concert this weekend on Geek Alabama!  Learn more about the Model City Music Fest at:  http://www.modelcityfest.com/
