The Walking Dead Spinoff Fear The Walking Dead/Cobalt Comes This Summer

Well zombie fans.  Don’t you hate the feeling of waiting over six months to wait for another season of The Walking Dead?  Well, that long wait will end this year!  You are now going to get to see another group of people surviving during the zombie apocalypse.  AMC has green lighted two seasons of the working titles “Fear The Walking Dead” or “Cobalt.”  The show will star Kim Dickens and Cliff Curtis, and it will be set in Los Angeles.  The pilot for the show has already been completed, and was written by Robert Kirkman and Dave Erickson.  The synopsis for the pilot is:

“The spinoff takes place during the same zombie apocalypse depicted on The Walking Dead but in a different location. It revolves around Sean Cabrera (Curtis), a divorced teacher and Nancy Tompkins (Dickens), a female guidance councilor. Dillane plays the Nancy’s son Nick, who has battled a drug problem. Debnam Carey plays the Nancy’s ambitious daughter Ashley.”

The show will take place in the same universe as The Walking Dead.  And the show will be a little different.  In The Walking Dead, we don’t see what happens when everything breaks loose, as Rick was in a coma.  In this new show, we will see what happens when the zombie apocalypse begins!  So, what happens when zombies begins to overrun civilization?  That will probably be what the pilot is all about.

The first season will run this Summer and will have six episodes.  And the second season will have six episodes and run in Summer 2016.  The story will be about two families who come together in an attempt to survive after the outbreak.  And judging by the photo below from AMC, it looks like we will see the early stages of the zombie apocalypse.  Something The Walking Dead has not told us yet.

Robert Kirkman says “I personally take it as a sign that they believe, like we do, that we’ve accomplished our goal of developing something original that can pay tribute to the original show and expand the world I created while at the same time having something new to say with this story. I’m very grateful that we now have the opportunity to tell this amazing story and show the fans that we really haven’t scratched the surface yet when it comes to The Walking Dead.”

So I hope Fear The Walking Dead or Cobalt is something like the original, and it will continue to feed us our appetite for zombies for years to come!  If you are looking for a start date this Summer, put your money on late July after Comic Con.  You know AMC will want to heavily promote this thing!  Also, don’t be surprised if there was a sneak peek during the last Talking Dead in a few weeks.  When Robert Kirkman says this new series will be “amazing”, you must check this out!
