A Goodbye Letter To Maxis And Sim City

So long Maxis, I hope you don’t get hit hard while walking out the door.  See those people outside the door, those are the people who are angry at how Sim City ended up.  You made a great Sim City 4, the gameplay was out of this world, you then came out with a traffic pack called Rush Hour, which made me dance and smile.  Then, you decided to revamp Sim City, and that is when everything went south, and in a hurry!

When the latest Sim City came out, you made sure to make everyone angry!  For starters, you had to be connected to the internet to play the game, who does that?  Then, you made people wait for the little server space available, and it was a disaster.  Sure, you tried to fix things up, but it was too little too late.  Soon, people were demanding a refund, and people left the Sim City brand behind forever!  Some people went back and played older versions of Sim City, because they were better!

Retailers like Amazon quit selling the game, and EA continued to demand more money to add on things to the game.  It pretty much became an unplayable game.  Now, EA has closed down Maxis Emeryville.

People working at Maxis Emeryville were laid off, and the Maxis brand that brought us 31 games over a 27 year period is gone forever.  I am afraid that EA will continue to ruin the games Maxis brought us, and that Sim City will soon be a thing of the past.  And that is sad, because I loved Sim City.  I loved Sim City 2000, Sim City 3, and Sim City 4.  And I hope we will see another game like the classic Sim City titles.  And there is hope!

A new game called Cities Skylines is coming out right now!  I am considering this as the new Sim City.  RIP Maxis and Sim City, you will forever be in our little sim hearts.
