Crowdsourcing Mornings: Reunite Oreo And His Mom

Geek Alabama Crowdsourcing Mornings

This is Crowdsourcing Mornings! This post takes place every weekday morning and highlights one crowdsourcing project I liked from Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or other crowdsourcing websites.

Please help Bassma Omar, a graduate of Auburn University, raise $1,400 to cover the international shipping expenses of flying sweet Oreo home. Bassma came to Auburn in 2012 all the way from Kurdistan, Iraq, as a part of the prestigious Fulbright Scholars Program which allowed her to obtain her Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering. Despite being immersed in an entirely new culture, Bassma continued to demonstrate her proven work ethic and flourished as a student. But seeing that her family was halfway around the world, she wanted something to fill the emotional void of being away from home. And that’s when Oreo found her. Bassma rescued him when he was 10 weeks old and her life hasn’t been the same since. Bassma and Oreo did everything together.

Having something to care for, to play with, and to see on her bedside every night provided so much comfort and created a connection that she never could have imagined possible. She has grown to love him so much and cannot imagine her life without him. But once Bassma completed her degree and had to go back home, complications arose. International airlines won’t allow a bunny to be in the cabin or as checked baggage (all of the airlines that have a final destination in her home country accept ONLY cats, dogs, and birds as checked baggage). So unfortunately, Bassma’s only option is to pay the steep price of shipping Oreo as cargo which is much more than she can afford as recent graduate still seeking fitting employment. Don’t let Bassma and Oreo be apart any longer.

As of February 18th, this project has raised around $900 of their $1,400 goal. This project only has 5 days left to raise the $1,400 or it might not be funded!  For a pledge of $20, you will get a personal than you note and digital picture of Oreo.  For a pledge of $35, you will get a engraved wooden plaque.  To learn more and to pledge money, go to:
