Crowdsourcing Mornings: Goodnight Lad

Geek Alabama Crowdsourcing Mornings
This is Crowdsourcing Mornings! This post takes place every weekday morning and highlights one crowdsourcing project I liked from Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or other crowdsourcing websites.

Goodnight Lad is a magical augmented reality children’s book. Each page comes to life with beautiful animations that you can interact with to really get into the book. Kids love this book, but it isn’t just for kids… make history with them and make memories with your family.  They love developing high quality and innovative apps.  They have over 6 million downloads of their apps and tons of happy customers. And they have one big goal: To make reading fun!  So, how does this work?
You download their app.  And point your phone over a page in the Goodnight Lad Book.  When you do, you get this!

Even if you rotate the book, fold a page in the book, or tilt the book, you will see unique and wonderful animations come to life through your phone!  The app allows you to have a narrator read the book for you, and each page comes with hidden secrets you can see through the phone app.  The book has 32 pages of animations, and the app is available via Apple and Android.  They want kids to discover a love for books. Reading is such a magical experience, it opens up our imagination and helps us see the world in new ways. And yet kids are so fascinated by technology that they don’t even care about books!
Technology isn’t going anywhere. And while they believe parents should monitor their kids’ usage, they also believe technology can be a huge motivator when used correctly. Their goal is to give kids a healthy alternative that will foster a great love for reading.  Not to mention this technology is just plain cool! One look at their book and you will be a huge fan, they promise. They are so confident that you’ll love it that they offer a money back guarantee. If you don’t absolutely love the book, send it back and they’ll give you a full refund.
This story was inspired by the first year of Bradley Grimm’s son’s life. He would never sleep. And as the time went on Sarah and him just felt like it would never end. They tried so many things to help him sleep, but nothing seemed to work. Once he got a little older and things settled down he wanted to immortalize that journey in a lovely book, the result turned out to be Goodnight Lad.  They have the entire book written and illustrated. Each page has beautiful animations, and they are continuing to add to the experience with more interactions and hidden secrets ever day.  The funds will be used to get the book printed and shipped to backers. They expect the final prints of the book to arrive in April. App development will continue over the next months, and the final touches will be added in May. They expect to start shipping rewards in early June.
As of February 5th, this project has raised around $4,900 of their $5,000 goal. This project only has 29 days left to raise the $5,000 or it will not be funded!  For a pledge of $2, you will get one postcard from a page of the book.  For a pledge of $20, you will get the Goodnight Lad book and app.  To learn more and to pledge money, go to:
