Crowdsourcing Weekends: Echo Connect Plus, Manifest Destiny Billboard Project, Classic Alice Books 8+

Geek Alabama Crowdsourcing

This is Crowdsourcing Weekends! This post highlights three different crowdsourcing projects I liked from Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or other crowdsourcing websites.

Echo Connect Plus

Small, light-weight and flexible, this handy phone accessory is an essential for any mobile phone user. The combination of the MFI certified Apple lightning connecter and the Micro-USB port give the Echo Key the ability to charge almost any electrical device.  The design has considered multiple factors including, usage, wear-and-tear, accessibility, size, materials, and more.  The final design is 6cm long, (around the same size as a small door key), it has hard plastic around the connectors for increased durability and life-time, and a softer plastic body, so it’s flexible enough to get into the most challenging USB sockets.

The device attaches on to your keys or necklace, or slips into your wallet or purse, it is designed to go wherever life takes you.  They’ve done all of the hard work. Now it’s purely production and fulfilment. This includes shipping, warehousing, and product certification. They have partners all in place, ready to get them produced and delivered to you within minimal delays!

As of February 1st, this project has raised around $17,000 of their $10,000 goal. This project only has 56 days left to raise as much as it can!  For a pledge of $15, you will get one Echo Connect Plus Device.  For a pledge of $25, you will get one personalized Echo Connect Plus device.  To learn more and to pledge money, go to:

Manifest Destiny Billboard Project

The Manifest Destiny Billboard Project is a series of 100 artist-produced billboards and activations, presented by LAND (Los Angeles Nomadic Division) which has been unfolding along Interstate 10 Freeway since October 2013. This ambitious and ongoing project began in Jacksonville, FL and will conclude in Los Angeles, CA in June 2015. This nationwide exhibition is an unprecedented endeavor, engaging millions of Americans in site-specific contemporary art in their day-to-day lives.  To mark the culmination of this endeavor in June 2015, they invite you to participate in a celebratory weekend of artist curated events, panel discussions, and screenings that will bring together the 10 projects that were unveiled across the country over the course of 20 months and 2,415 miles.

The participatory nature of this project calls for an equally collaborative conclusion. Your active support and participation are critical to the success of the project, and will dictate the way in which the project ends!  The Manifest Destiny Billboard Project is truly an unprecedented kind of art exhibition—significant contemporary art presented for the public, spanning the entire country, and reaching millions of viewers who can experience innovative artwork merely by driving their normal commute or trip to the grocery store. It has been participatory throughout its life, and will end in the same way—with your active participation and support!

As of February 1st, this project has raised around $10,500 of their $18,000 goal. This project only has 20 days left to raise the $18,000 or it will not be funded!  For a pledge of $10, you will get all project-related news and updates, receive invitations to all events, and receive special thanks on The Manifest Destiny Billboard Project website.  For a pledge of $25, you will get a poster by artist Bobbi Woods OR a pennant of the Jacksonville, FL skies designed by artist Shana Lutker.  To learn more and to pledge money, go to:

Classic Alice: Books 8 & Beyond

Classic Alice is the brainchild of series creator and star, Kate Hackett. When over-achiever Alice Rackham gets a bad grade on an essay because she isn’t emotionally connecting to material, she decides to live her life according to classic novels. Her friend, Andrew Prichard, uses the opportunity to make a vlog-style documentary about the process, and together they create ‘Classic Alice’.  They have over seventy episodes already on and all their transmedia (like their podcasts) & more is available at and IMDb. But they think there should be more.

They loved making Classic Alice and they very much want to tell more stories with these characters. As Kate says — the story just shouldn’t end here; it could, but that’s not real life and that’s not what they think is best for our show — it is not the story they set out to tell! There was plenty of drama (will they won’t they?! Wind in the Willows! Cara’s arc! EWAN. FREAKIN. MCBAY. And so much more) in the past seven books… wouldn’t it be nice to see where things head for everyone?  They anticipate a return in Summer 2015. More details will follow if they’re funded!

As of February 1st, this project has raised around $21,600 of their $60,000 goal. This project only has 17 days left to raise the $60,000 or it will might be funded!  For a pledge of $5, you will get regular email updates and a link to official Classic Alice bookmarks that you can print as you like.  For a pledge of $25, you will get access to digital BTS footage Digital Downloads of Books 1-7 (before we air 2015) AND Books 8+ (when available).  To learn more and to pledge money, go to:
