A Young Girl Was Kicked Out Of A KFC Because She Looked Different, This Is Wrong

UPDATE:  A investigation found that this story never happened at a KFC.  The Facebook page has been taken down.  I hope the family will refund the money raised on the Go Fund Me page, and maybe the grandmother needs to be charged with lying.

I am sure everyone has heard of this story by now, and since it happened in Mississippi, it is in our territory.  In Jackson Mississippi, a 3-year-old girl named Victoria was attacked by 3 pit bulls in April.  The 3 dogs involved were put down immediately by the owner. Victoria had bites all over her body but the most damage was to her face. She had a broken upper and lower jaw, broken nose, cheek bones and right eye socket. She lost her right eye completely and the ability to move the right side of her face. Surgeons have reconstructed her bottom jaw but can’t do anymore surgeries until she grows new bone in her face due to the fact that the broken pieces are to small to piece together.

Victoria is on a feeding tube and her grandmother took her to a KFC last week and got some mashed potatoes with gravy and some sweet tea.  Soon after sitting down, an employee at that KFC told the grandmother and daughter to leave because her scars scared customers.  Yeah, this really happened.  Victoria cried all the way home, and the grandmother was so angry, she wrote this on their Facebook page including the picture below.

Victoria-Wilcher

“Does this face look scary to you?  Last week at KFC in Jackson MS this precious face was asked to leave because her face scared the other diners. I personally will never step foot in another KFC again and will be personally writing the CEO.”

Soon after that was posted, the story went viral.  Thousands of people liked the Victoria’s Victories Facebook page.  And many people talked about how the employees at the KFC location should not have discriminated against the girl, and the child should be treated like any other person!  Soon after the report came out, KFC spokesman Rick Maynard came out with this statement.

“As soon as we were notified of this report on Friday, we immediately began an investigation, as this kind of hurtful and disrespectful action would not be tolerated by KFC. Regardless of the outcome of our investigation, we have apologized to Victoria’s family and are committed to assisting them. The company is making a $30,000 donation to assist with her medical bills. The entire KFC family is behind Victoria.”

At least KFC has done the right thing here and is helping the family, and punishing the employees responsible for treating this young girl with disrespect.  Even another KFC franchise in Mississippi is going to treat the family to a big picnic!  But there is a bigger problem here, and it’s something I experience quite often.  Because I have an disability, and act different, some people treat me like I am a bad person, things are so bad someone actually called the police on me when I was doing nothing wrong.  You can read about my experience by clicking here.

Today, more and more people are judging other people based on first impressions/looks without taking the time to talk to that person and getting to know that person. People in America have become too judgmental, and it’s contributing to the downfall of America!  Quit basing and judging others on first looks or impressions, and talk to that person and get to know them!  Victoria still has many surgeries and therapies to go, but she is still a sweet young lady.  I am afraid some people are going to judge her based on first looks, without actually taking the time to get to know her.  It is happening to me, and sadly, it’s going to happen to Victoria as well.
