Good News Fridays: A Service Dog for Everett

On this edition of Good News Fridays, on a Sunday morning! I am talking about a special campaign from a family up in the Huntsville area where they are raising money so they can get a service dog. The Bradford family has a 5 year-old boy named Everett, he is like any other young boy, but Everett was born with spina bifida, a congenital condition where an opening in his spine never fully closed and caused nerve damage, today, he can’t walk on his own.

Everett was also born with hydrocephalus and Arnold-Chiari brain malformation, and has some sensory-processing problems. In fact, his first surgery was when he was only 12 hours old! Since he was born, he has had 12 other surgeries and has spent a lot of time in the hospital. Even though he has disabilities, meaning he can’t walk, has to use a catheter, and has sensitive skin, Everett still plays T-ball, does art classes, participates in a dance program, and has physical and occupational therapy. The Bradford family is fundraising to help them meet the cost of a service dog for their sweet boy, Everett. The family says he is the sweetest little boy and sharp as a tack! A mobility service dog could help him with a variety of daily activities. A little boy needs a good dog, and they really want their son to get the love of a dog with the added benefit of it being trained to help him along his journey. The family thinks Everett absolutely deserves a service dog! So the family is running a Go Fund Me campaign. Insurance does not cover trained service dogs, which typically cost around $10,000. And the family needs money support so Everett can get his service dog!
