Good News Fridays: Team Abby And People Showing Their Strong Arms

Abby is a young girl from the Wellborn community that is just like every other young girl, except she is in the hospital fighting a disease. Abby has Standard Risk Precursor B Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Abby is now getting chemo treatments to fight against this disease. Here is how Abby’s journey to cancer treatment began. Abby came home from school on April 23rd running a fever (101) and complaining of a sore throat. After going to the pediatricians office and running tests, the only thing found wrong was her white blood cell count was very low and they told her to come back in two weeks.

Abby battled fevers and stomach pains before her mother decided to have her checked again, this time at the ER of Children’s Hospital in Birmingham. The doctors in the ER repeated the same tests from the pediatricians office. Abby’s strep test was positive and her flu was negative. The doctors also found her white blood count low as well. On further testing they found her neutrophils and RBC to be low also. The doctors immediately decided that Abby needed to be admitted and more tests needed to be done. All of these results pointed to the nasty demon leukemia. The morning of April 29, Abby had a bone marrow biopsy to check for leukemia. The doctor came in around noon with his preliminary results and confirmed with 95% certainty that their baby has Leukemia.

They had to wait for some of the biopsies to come back from UAB (where they send to confirm their findings at Children’s), at around 5:30 pm her doctor comes to tell them that UAB was unable to confirm leukemia but that everything they see right now shows Leukemia and the fact that Abby was very difficult to get bone marrow from. They had a hard time pulling the marrow out of the bone. They had to penetrate the bone several times to get marrow. On April 30th, Abby’s doctor told the family that Abby has Standard Risk Precursor B Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. And now Abby has begun chemo treatments, the great news is the leukemia she has is VERY treatable and in 95% it is curable and her hair will re-grow.

Abby is very sick but at this time the doctor says she is safe and receiving the best care available. The family is turning to God and instead of asking why, they are praising Him because he has an almighty plan for their precious Abby and they know she will be fine as long as they keep remembering God’s plan is bigger than any CANCER. The family has contacted the Anniston Police Department about supporting a young lady in the Wellborn community that has been diagnosed with Leukemia. The request was for Officers showing off their strong arms in support of the young lady for a scrapbook. The Investigative Division completed the request!

And now the challenge has been passed along to other departments, businesses, sports teams etc. to get your pics of your strong arms together. And the community has delivered!

The family is wanting to make a scrapbook of all of the people showing off their strong arms because they want Abby to stay strong and beat Leukemia! The family knows Abby has a long road ahead of her. But the family wanted to let everyone know that she is going to put up the BIGGEST FIGHT you have ever seen and BEAT Leukemia because SHE is #AbbyStrong.
