Crowdsourcing Mornings: Suspended Coffees

Geek Alabama Crowdsourcing Mornings
This is Crowdsourcing Mornings! This post will take place every weekday morning and highlights one crowdsourcing project I liked from Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or other crowdsourcing websites.
Suspended Coffees is a movement that encourages charity through human kindness. While aimed toward help those in need, it has warmed the hearts of thousands of people across the globe.  It’s as simple as purchasing an extra cup of coffee at a participating café for someone that needs a warm beverage.  Some cafes also offer suspended snacks and meals.  Here is the story of how it all began.  A couple of years ago John Sweeney was in a coffee house with a friend giving his order at the counter.  When they approached their table, two new customers entered the café and said: “Five coffees, please.  Two of them for them and three suspended.”  The pair paid for the order, taking only two of the coffees, and left the café.
Suspended coffee is a simple concept that allows people to pay in advance for a coffee that is then given to someone else who cannot afford to pay for their own warm beverage. This tradition started in Naples, and it has now spread across the globe; with a twist because in some establishments, you can order not only a suspended coffee, but also a sandwich or a whole meal.  Who is eligible to receive the free coffee/food?  The premise is that anyone in need can seek this out.  But it’s about so much more than coffee: It’s about listening to someone who needs to be heard; it’s about seeing someone who needs to be seen and valued; it’s about showing how everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and respect.  It’s about you spreading a little kindness by paying it forward.
As of April 14th, this project has raised around $6,852 of their $10,000 goal. This project only has 4 days left to raise the $10,000 or it might not be funded!  For a pledge of $20, you will get a limited edition Suspended Coffees Supporter Sticker, your name on the official Suspended Coffees Donor webpage, and a Shout Out.  For a pledge of $75, they will donate five Suspended Coffees to a supporting cafe in your name.  You will also receive your name on the official Suspended Coffees Donor webpage and a Shout Out.  To learn more and to pledge money, go to:–3
