On this Good News Fridays, I am featuring three videos to give you a smile into this weekend! The first video from Korduroy.tv is a short film featuring 64-year-old Steve Fugate, who has walked across America to raise awareness of depression and suicide. Steve walks across the country with a sign that reads “Love Life.” Fugate began the project in 1999 after his son committed suicide. He has since endured the death of his daughter from an accidental drug overdose, as well as seven crossings of the U.S. and some 34,000 miles of walking. The second video from GoPro features a pelican named Big Bird who was abandoned by his flock, Big Bird the pelican stumbled ashore after a storm and was taken in by the staff of Greystoke Mahale in Tanzania. The staff spent time with Big Bird teaching him how to fly. It took several weeks of teaching and learning, but soon Big Bird took flight! Here is video of Big Bird’s first flight, with a GoPro camera attached to his beak.
The third video features a rescued panther kitten who was found by biologists from the Florida Fish and Wildlife in January 2014 in the Florida Panther National Wildlife Refuge. The kitten was only one week old and was severely dehydrated, hypothermic, and on the brink of death. The kitten was taken to the Animal Specialty Hospital of Florida in Naples whose staff implemented life-saving measures. Two weeks later, the kitten was thriving and ready to move to his next rehabilitative step at the Lowry Zoo in Tampa. Once the kitten is fully rehabilitated, he will be a permanent resident of the Ellie Schiller Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park.
