And if you use Google in Russia or anywhere around the world, you are welcomed with this Google Doodle that supports the Winter Olympics and LGBT Rights. It’s like a slap to the face to Russia, and Alabama. Sorry Roy Moore, who sent letters to all 50 states to ask them to ban gay marriage, I support LGBT Rights, and everyone should too!
The Olympic Charter is: “The practice of sport is a human right. Every individual must have the possibility of practicing sport, without discrimination of any kind and in the Olympic spirit, which requires mutual understanding with a spirit of friendship, solidarity and fair play.” And for the ones who bash people who are gay or LGBT, please quit it. Another concern is will Sochi be safe? I think Sochi will be safe enough and all Olympic venues will be secure. I just would not wear a ton of American gear outside of the Olympic venues.
Now come on NBC, mostly every other country in the world will be showing the Sochi Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony live, but for you, you are going to tape-delay it until primetime and fill it with commercials. NBC has been in the crosshairs of the Geek Alabama blog since it’s poor job of the 2012 London Olympics and how it’s treating The Weather Channel in Atlanta. For technical people like me, I will not be waiting for primetime, there are many websites that will stream either the BBC Two or CBC feeds which will air live and commercial free. NBC could have at least aired the opening ceremonies live on their sports network, because Twitter, Facebook, and other social media is going to be filling up with images and words during the day on Friday. To avoid Olympic spoilers, you need to stay off social media on Friday.
If you want to watch the Sochi Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony live, which starts at 10 am Central on Friday, or any Sochi Olympic coverage, you can either search on Google for the BBC One and BBC Two live stream or the CBC live stream from some website, just make sure you have virus and malware software installed on your computer. Or you can use a VPN or virtual private network service. One easy program to use is Tunnel Bear that gives a choice of IP addresses from other countries so you can watch the Olympic Opening Ceremony and the Olympic Games live in other countries. Or, you can go the old-fashioned way and wait until primetime and sit though the commentary and those pesky ads. For me, I will be watching online!
And starting on Saturday, Geek Alabama will use the Evening Post to update the medal counts from the United States and the top four countries. I did this during the 2012 Olympic Games and it was popular! Geek Alabama will also do various posts highlighting the top USA Olympians.
