On this TV Reviews post, I am talking about the new shows Lone Target on Discovery Channel and Do or Die on National Geographic Channel!
Lone Target
Discovery Channel has this new show where one guy is on the run while police and other tracking teams hunt the runner down. Discovery Channel is taking audiences on the ultimate chase in a real-life game of cat-and-mouse, pitting former Navy SEAL Joel Lambert against the world’s most elite military and law enforcement tracking teams in the new series Lone Target. With only what he can carry on his back, Joel will play an extreme version of hide-and-seek in unknown treacherous terrain with nothing but a basic survival kit and canteen of water as he attempts to evade capture in 48-hours or less.
In each episode of Lone Target, Joel is dropped at an unknown secret starting point, and with a small head start, must evade capture from a different elite military or law enforcement tracking team and make his extraction – in less than two days – or risk capture. Cameraman’s come along with side-by-side cameras capturing the action from both perspectives, the viewers get to experience first-hand the thrill of the hunt as he is being pursued by: the U.S. Army’s Phantom Recon unit in Arizona, the Straz Graniczna border guard in Poland, the South African International Anti-Poaching Foundation (IAPF), the Army Scout Rangers in the Philippines, Panama’s elite anti-drug force, SENAFRONT and the South Korean National Police SWAT unit.
With Joel’s reputation and the trackers’ national pride at risk, the stakes are extraordinarily high. An expert in escape and evasion, Joel’s background has well-positioned him to prey on each unit’s hidden flaws—but evading highly specialized military tracking units and combating dehydration, hunger and the natural elements proves to be a greater challenge. Using diversionary tactics and survival techniques gained from his 10-years of experience as a Navy SEAL, will Joel’s training, skill and cunning all help him escape? Or will the hunters capture Joel on the run?
The first episode featured Joel being chased through the African Savannah by the South African International Anti-Poaching Foundation (IAPF). And I thought the show was good. Joel was close to being caught a couple of times, and the South African International Anti-Poaching Foundation did a great job tracking Joel. Joel and the trackers presented a lot of great tips, and Joel had to run to jump onto that moving plane, glad he didn’t get eaten by the lions!

Do or Die
Do or Die is a new show on National Geographic Channel that I thought was good. The show features stories of real people caught in desperate situations, and the show offers viewers the choices these individuals faced in their struggle to survive. Through caught-on-tape moments and CGI, Do or Die is virtually at the scene of a life-or-death situation. But before finding out how the hero survives, viewers can put their own instincts to the test by evaluating three survival options for each scenario — two of which could be deadly.
The show gives you the facts that will improve your odds of survival the next time you’re in a Do or Die moment. With only a few seconds to react, would you make it out alive? The show first featured stories about an out of control car, raging bull, rogue wave, surviving a tsunami, snowboarder survival, and escaping a predator. The show gives you three options to survive the situation. Before you make a choice, the show gives you some extra options to consider. And then the show thoroughly details each of the options and tells you if you would survive or not.
I thought the show was good, it does give you some very practical tips to survive a dangerous situation. And yes, I think this show is better than that Spike TV show called 1001 Ways To Die. It looks like National Geographic Channel is expanding their programming and has more new shows coming in January that I will be reviewing!
