We had two more pledges and are now up to $75. But we have a long way to go to get to $20,000. Just to clarify something, if I was not running a Indiegogo campaign, I would be asking for $15,000. The extra $5,000 is going towards fees and pledges. I got a comment from someone and it reads:
Heck of a goal to pull 20k in 30 days. A buddy told me about your site, and I run several big Drupal sites. If you do a paypal donation I’d be happy to support your efforts for 35 bucks for a month of vhosting and tweet about ya.
Anyone can make a PayPal contribution by scrolling to the bottom of this post and to the right and click on the donate button! The reason I am running a Indiegogo campaign is simple, where I live, East Alabama is one of the poorest and worst regions in America.
Anniston/Oxford is the second worst performing metro area in America. Gadsden is the 4th poorest city in America. And Sylacauga/Talladega is the fifth poorest region in America. I live in East Alabama, and no one can afford to pay me for event coverage or can even afford to hire people, it’s that bad! So I am hoping the readers outside of East Alabama will help Geek Alabama to grow! That is why I am running a Indiegogo campaign!
The money raised from this campaign will go towards several things. One, our camera equipment is now several years old and the sensors are breaking down. Two, our computer equipment is breaking down. It takes us a couple of hours to process one video because of the slow computer. Geek Alabama wants to move to a self-hosted site so we can accept advertisers. Geek Alabama is currently hosted on WordPress.com where outside advertisers are banned. Funds would also go towards getting radio equipment so we can launch a podcast! The money would also go towards fixing our transportation (car), paying the fees, and paying for the rewards.
We are offering some great rewards for supporting Geek Alabama! These rewards include books, t-shirts, poster, tote bag, other items, and chances to be featured on Geek Alabama! Here is what we are offering!
This Indiegogo campaign is a fixed campaign, which means if we don’t reach the $20,000 goal, we don’t get any funding. And all the pledge rewards will not be made and shipped out. We have plenty of exciting things coming to Geek Alabama in 2014, but if we don’t reach this goal, we might not get to do them. And the people who were counting on us for promotion and coverage will be left without, we don’t want that to happen! We have worked with many great companies and been featured on other media outlets, take a look!
Today, we are at $75 of our $20,000 raised. If you want to pledge money and select a great reward, go to: http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/geek-alabama-fundraiser-help-us-raise-money-to-expand-geek-alabama/x/3587818
