Animation Monday: Tuurngait, Big Game, The Wind Rises Trailer

This week on Animation Monday, I am going to talk about two short films and an animated movie trailer that you knock your socks off!

Tuurngait

This short film has won numerous awards, and it’s very good! The plot is an Inuit child wanders away from his village, fascinated by a wild bird. His father follows his trail, determined to find him before he gets lost on the ice flow. The ending is very sweet as well!

This film was worked as a group of five students during one year and a half to create their graduation film, Tuurngait, at Supinfocom Arles, south of France. Big Game

This was another great short film! Bobo, a lonely monster, is set to spend yet another birthday alone, until a cunning hunter throws him a killer surprise party. You will like this ending! Big Game is an animated short film, created by six students from The Animation School in Cape Town, South Africa. This project took 8 sleepless months, from concept to completion. This is Big Game.

The Wind Rises Trailer

In The Wind Rises, Jiro dreams of flying and designing beautiful airplanes, inspired by the famous Italian aeronautical designer Caproni. Nearsighted from a young age and unable to be a pilot, Jiro joins a major Japanese engineering company in 1927 and becomes one of the world’s most innovative and accomplished airplane designers. The film chronicles much of his life, depicting key historical events, including the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923, the Great Depression, the tuberculosis epidemic and Japan’s plunge into war. Jiro meets and falls in love with Nahoko, and grows and cherishes his friendship with his colleague Honjo. Writer and director Hayao Miyazaki pays tribute to engineer Jiro Horikoshi and author Tatsuo Hori in this epic tale of love, perseverance, and the challenges of living and making choices in a turbulent world.

This will be Hayao Miyazaki’s farewell film, which will mark an end of the career of the most successful animation director ever. It is his last film. He’s known for many animated films including Naüsicaa of the Valley of the Wind, Princess Mononoke, My Neighbor Totoro, Porco Rosso, Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle, and others. The film will be released in wide release on February 28th 2014.
