Music Thursdays: Captain Captain Cutie Pie / A Creber Christmas

Advertisements

This week on Music Thursdays, I am going to talk about two great bands that have some great music.  They just need some help raising funding to do an album or a concert.  Let’s talk about these two bands who are raising funds via Kickstarter and Indiegogo.

Captain Captain Cutie Pie

Captain Captain Cutie Pie is a musical duo made up of Makenna Lang and Laura Lynn Williams.  They met in the residence halls at Samford University and became roommates soon after based on their mutual love of Brandi Carlile and One Tree Hill.  A few months after moving in together they learned that Makenna could SING and so they formed a Christmas song duo, which soon turned into a cover band, which soon turned into a writing partnership with songs like Body out of Birmingham, I Do Not Talk to Boys, and Truth Will Wreck.

After three years of undergraduate studies, life, and writing together, they’ve finally decided to make a record.  With so much demand for songs like Birmingham they’ve finally figured out that a YouTube presence isn’t enough.  Basically, they’re tired of making you come to shows to hear their songs.  So they’ve set a really modest budget and are hoping to record during winter break so that before (that dreaded word) graduation in May they will have a collection of all the songs that have gotten them through this college experience together.

They don’t really know what else to say except that this music and this partnership has been such a meaningful part of their years at Samford, and they’re tired of keeping it to ourselves…so they want to give it to you.  Their music is really good!  In these two videos below called “Wonderwall” and “Float On”, you will see their great singing and music making.  These two work together very well in making great music!

As of November 14th, this Kickstarter project has raised around $1,200 of the $2,200 goal they need to be funded.  And as you know in Kickstarter, a project is not funded until the fundraising goal is reached!  This project only has 16 days left to reach the $2,200 goal.  For a pledge of $10, you will receive four free tickets to their next show plus a physical copy of the CD mailed to you on release day, as well as a digital download the day before release.  For a pledge of $25, you will get everything above plus a digital download a month before release, and some Captain Captain Cutie Pie swag.  To learn more about Captain Captain Cutie Pie and to pledge money, go to: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/captcaptcutiepie/capt-capt-cutie-pies-making-a-record?ref=home_location

A Creber Christmas

The My Little Pony fans sent me this Indiegogo project featuring Michelle Creber who voices Apple Bloom and the singing voice of Sweetie Belle in the series.  And if you are a fan of Christmas music below, you are going to like this segment!  Last year, Michelle  Creber, Michael Creber, and Gabriel Brown successfully crowdfunded their new album, A Creber Christmas.  This year, the family band is wanting to take their act on the road and perform three concerts in Los Angeles, Vancouver, and Washington D.C.

If you know any of them, you know that they really, REALLY love Christmas.  They love everything about it: snow, evergreen trees, decorations, big family dinners, the celebration of light in the darkness of winter, the spirit of love and generosity…and, of course, the music!  They are running separate campaigns for each city, so that supporters can choose which concert they want to assist by buying tickets in advance.  As soon as any given campaign raises the necessary funds, the concert will go forward in that city, regardless of what happens with the others.  If a campaign exceeds its goal, they’ll add to their plan for that concert to make it even more fantastic.

For the folks like the ones here in Alabama, you can still support this campaign and get great music from this music group.  They have included some fantastic perks that are not connected to concert tickets like personalized holiday-themed ringtones, CD collections, joining them for a day at Disneyland, and even a Christmas Party in a Box (featuring Michelle’s famous home-made cookies!)  You could do all your Christmas shopping in one fell swoop…and yes, for perks that involve CDs or Christmas baking, shipping anywhere in the world is included.

The funds raised in this campaign will go towards the direct costs involved in putting on a show in Los Angeles, Vancouver, and Washington D.C.  Things like venue rental & technical fees, travel & accommodation, artist & crew compensation plus administrative expenses.  If you want to hear Michelle Creber sing a great Christmas song, then enjoy her version of Silent Night below!

The family is running three separate Indiegogo projects for each of the three cities they are wanting to hold a concert.  The rewards are the same in all three projects including the non concert ticket rewards.  For a pledge of $10, you will get a mp3 AND YouTube link to a new Christmas song featuring the Crebers and Gabriel Brown.  For a pledge of $100, you will get 5 signed CDs shipped anywhere.  Below I am listing the three projects, the money raised, and how much time left on the project.  Click on the link to take you to that project.

Los Angeles: $2,000 of $10,000 raised / 6 days left

Vancouver: $2,630 of $6,000 raised / 17 days left

Washington D.C.: $1,535 of $10,000 raised / 11 days left
