Animation Monday: Sabrina: Secrets of a Teenage Witch

Geek Alabama Animation

This Animation Monday post is going to talk about an upcoming animated series that premieres this Saturday on the Hub Network.  Sabrina: Secrets of a Teenage Witch was announced back in 2011 and it finally comes to air this weekend.  The series stars Ashley Tisdale, who voices Candace from Phineas and Ferb, as Sabrina Spellman.  For you My Little Pony fans, Tabitha St. Germain voices as Hilda Spellman.  Other talent lending voices are Kathleen Barr from Littlest Pet Shop, and Erin Mathews from Kid vs. Kat.  Here is a promo video of the series!

I was given an opportunity to preview two episodes before they air on the Hub Network.  On the first episode airing this Saturday called “Dances With Werewolves”, Sabrina’s witch world wrecks havoc with her human friends when Harvey puts on a cursed jacket as part of the costume he plans to wear to the premiere of a new werewolf movie.  Later, Shinji crosses into the human world to seek revenge on Sabrina for standing him up at the full-moon dance.

In the second episode called “Scream It With Flowers”, Sabrina’s Valentine’s Day is not so sweet when a suspicious spell is put on the flowers she brings to school for her friends.  Unfortunately, the only way to stop the curse is to summon the source of the spell and Sabrina will need all the help she can get.  Yes, the flowers turn into vicious werewolf flowers which do bite!

So, what do I think after watching the first two episodes.  I thought Ashley Tisdale did a great job voicing Sabrina.  It was about time she got a leading role in an animated series since she voices Candace very well in Phineas and Ferb.  Another thing you will notice is how the cat Salem loves to mess things up.  Is he working to create chaos in the human world?  He is one bad kitty!  The series is all computer animated, but the animation is done very well.  The clothing is very detailed on all the characters.  Even the fur on the werewolf is very realistic.  I thought the animation was done very well!

If you are familiar with the TV series Sabrina, The Teenage Witch, this animated series is going to be a little different.  You will see more interaction between the human world and the magical world!  Yes, magic is going to be used in both worlds and Sabrina does her best to hide her magic while in the human world.  You will also notice that Sabrina wears different outfits in the two worlds unless she transforms into a witch in the human world to save the day.

But some things stay the same, Sabrina leads two vastly different lives; one disguised as a normal, klutzy high school student and the other as the top sorcery student in the magical world.  When her two worlds collide, Sabrina is the only one who has the power to battle her foes, while managing to keep her magical identity a secret from humankind.  She wants to stay in the human world because she has a boyfriend which she likes to keep seeing!

The series is made by Moonscoop and Archie Comic Publications.  If you know the Sabrina comic from Archie Comics, this series is going to very familiar.  This is one of those series that is going to help the Hub Network to become even more popular.  I think it’s great that the Hub Network is adding new series to it’s already great lineup.  You should give Sabrina: Secrets of a Teenage Witch a try this Saturday, I think you are going to like it!
