This post is going to feature two different initiatives that I think you will like.  Maybe you will want to take part in these special programs.

Caine’s Global Cardboard Challenge

Unknown

This Saturday, the 2nd annual Caine’s Global Cardboard Challenge takes place all around the world!  On Saturday, thousands of people all over the world will celebrate cardboard creativity in aid of the Imagination Foundation.  Inspired by the short film, ‘Caine’s Arcade,’ the Global Cardboard Challenge is a worldwide celebration of child creativity and the role communities can play in fostering it.  The Imagination Foundation is challenging all of us to get together and build stuff from cardboard instead of just throwing it away.

They envision a world in which creativity is a core social value and a critical skill developed in every child; where the innate passion, curiosity and creativity of children is nurtured in schools, homes and communities everywhere; where all children are taught to be creative thinkers and doers, and encouraged to make their very best ideas happen in the world.

As of Friday, there are over 76,000 participants in 43 countries that will take part in the cardboard challenge.  Throughout September, kids were challenged to create and build using cardboard, recycled materials and imagination.  Then on Saturday October 5th, (the anniversary of the flash mob that came out to make Caine’s day in the short film) communities all around the world will come together and play!  This day will help kids explore their interests and passions, teach valuable 21st century skills like critical thinking, resourcefulness, perseverance, and teamwork, and bring communities together to foster and celebrate child creativity.

Even if there is not an event going on near you, get your kids involved and have them make something interesting out of cardboard, it’s better than seeing kids sitting in front of a screen!  To learn more about Caine’s Global Cardboard Challenge go to: http://cardboardchallenge.com/.  And if you have not seen the original ‘Caine’s Arcade,’ please take the time and watch it below!

The Hub Network has partnered with Goodwill Industries International to encourage viewers to participate in the “Hub Network’s Share to Scare” charity program by donating gently used costumes and other items they no longer need to Goodwill Industries.  From September 27 to October 31st.  You can take any gently used Halloween costume to your nearest Goodwill store.  Besides donating gently used costumes, the Hub Network and Goodwill encourage viewers to donate clothing and household items to Goodwill.  Goodwill sells the items in its local stores, and the revenues fund programs to help people build their careers as well as to provide community-based services such as child care services, financial education, transportation and youth mentoring.

To support the “Hub Network’s Share to Scare” initiative, Screenvision, a leader in cinema advertising, will broadcast a month-long PSA in October in preshow before the movies in front of G, PG and PG-13 rated films at your local movie theater.  And if you don’t have any costumes to donate, you can do one simple thing to help Goodwill.  Simply go to hubworld.com/halloween and scroll down to the bottom of the page and you will see this banner.  Make sure your ad blocking software is off!

Click on the banner and the Hub Network will donate $1.00 to Goodwill, it’s that simple!   For each click from September 27 to October 31st, the Hub Network will donate $1 to Goodwill, up to $20,000, to support Goodwill’s mission of helping people find jobs and care for their families. The partnership coincides with the network’s upcoming “Hub Network’s First Annual Halloween Bash,” celebrating all things Halloween, including a nationwide costume competition.  The star-studded special will be broadcast Saturday October 26 from 8-10 pm ET / 5-7 pm PT on the Hub Network.  The special will be hosted by Kenan Thompson and will have guests like Cody Simpson, Bailee Madison, Rico Rodriguez, Keean Johnson, and Todd Newton.  The judges will be Martha Stewart, Hal Sparks, and Coco Jones.
