The iPhone 5S Is A Waste of Money

Every year, new models of smartphones are released to the public.  And Apple continued the tradition today by announcing the iPhone 5S and the iPhone 5C.  Also, the new operating system for all Apple products, iOS 7 is soon going to be released.  For the Apple users, iOS 7 is going to be great.  But what about those iPhones?  Here’s what I think of them!  Will it Blend?

The new iPhone 5S has a 4-inch display and comes in silver, gold and a color called space gray.  The hardware has been upgraded to an A7 chip, and is the first smartphone to be 64-bits.  The phone will feature the M7 chip and will be 40 times faster than the original iPhone.  Why does a phone need a super fast processing speed?  The camera is getting improved but the battery life barely improves, what’s up with that?

The big innovation with this phone is the Touch ID which is a fingerprint sensor built into the home button.  The sensor scans sub-epidermal skin layers and will have 360-degree readability.  It is about 170 microns thin, with 500 ppi resolution.  The fingerprint sensor can be used to unlock the iPhone or make purchases.  By the way, soon some Android phones are coming out with similar technology.   People are wanting better security for their phones for when they are stolen, this is a great innovation!

So, why would people pay up to $400 for the new iPhone 5S?  I am sure we will see long lines at the Apple Stores when the phone goes on sale.  But I am not going to waste my time standing in line.  I usually never go to buy a new product on the day of release.  For starters, you might be standing in long lines just to get that one product.  Will the product be sold out by the time you get there?  Are you sure the product is going to work correctly?  And why would you pay full cost, often the prices come down in a few months, so it’s worth the wait!

I prefer the Android phones because they are cool!  They are easy to use and are usually cheaper.  Google puts a lot of time into the Android software and the apps are usually error free.  Android is a open-source code and permissive licensing allows the software to be freely modified, which I love!  Plus, newer Android phones like the Moto X will be manufactured in the United States, we need to support more American jobs!

So for you Apple fans, go ahead and stand in line for days for a new iPhone that is made in China with cheap labor.  I am going to be relaxing on my couch and laughing when the images of long lines appears on the local news.
