Good News Fridays: Lee Marshall’s You Rescued Me

Geek Alabama Good News Fridays

On this Good News Fridays, I wanted to share this special music video from WHNT-TV anchor Lee Marshall.  Lee Marshall runs the charity Kids to Love which meets the needs of foster children while they wait for permanent homes.  But did you know that Lee Marshall is also a great singer?  For the past few months, Lee Marshall has worked with director D.J. Amerson and Mike Curtis on the song “You Rescued Me.”

Lee Marshall flew to Los Angeles and Hollywood to film the music video.  Lee and the director only had one week to work out the concept and two days to film the video.  The music video was filmed on the CBS Studios lot which was a residential street.  This lot was used in past shows like The Brady Bunch and Leave It To Beaver.  Lee wanted to bring the song to life to tell the story of adoption.

The ultimate goal of the Kids to Love Foundation is to find “forever families” for children who are waiting to be adopted.  According to the Congressional Coalition On Adoption Institute, there are 400,540 children that are living without permanent families.  115,000 of these children are eligible for adoption, but nearly 40% of these children will wait over three years in foster care before being adopted.   Each year, over 27,000 youth “age out” of foster care without the emotional and financial support necessary to succeed.  And many of these kids will end up homeless, put in jail, or starting to do drugs.  Nearly 25% of youth aging out did not have a high school diploma or GED, and a mere 6% had finished a two or four-year degree after aging out of foster care.  One study shows 70% of all youth in foster care have the desire to attend college.

The average length of time a child waits to be adopted in foster care is over three years.  Roughly 55% of these children have had three or more placements.  These kids often lose relationships and falls behind educationally.  Even after a child has been adopted and taken out of foster care.  Post-adoption services like therapy and tutoring are very important!  The need for more people to adopt and love kids in foster care has never been higher.  And that’s why Lee Marshall runs Kids To Love.

With each view of “You Rescued Me”, money will be raised for Kids to Love!  The original song shares Lee’s personal testimony of being adopted.   Lee Marshall’s hope with this song and video is to share this personal testimony and to hopefully inspire people to open their hearts and homes to children who need families.  And I believe you will be moved when you listen and watch the music video below!
