Google Shows Off Google Glass Glasses

Google released a very cool video this morning!  Google is giving people a glimpse in how its Google Glass futuristic glasses would feel to the wearer.  Google Glass is augmented reality eyewear that uses voice recognition to take commands and display information. Some examples of how the glasses can be used include turn-by-turn navigation, taking photos and videos, and translating languages on the spot.

In the video below; it shows people wearing the glasses going about their everyday lives and other adventures, like skydiving, and shows them using Glass to record video, take pictures or navigate.  This video is very cool!

Today, Google also announced a way for select users to try out the glasses before they hit the market!  Google is looking for bold, creative individuals who want to join us and be a part of shaping the future of Glass.  To be included, you need to tell Google what you would do if you had Glass.  You have to use the hashtag #ifihadglass on Twitter or Google +.  Your application must be 50 words or less and you can include up to 5 photos with your application and you can include a short video! (15 secs max)

The deadline for applications is February 27th.  If you are chosen, Google will reach out to you with an invitation to become a Glass Explorer.  Explorers will each need to pre-order a Glass Explorer Edition for $1500 plus tax and attend a special pick-up experience, in person, in New York, San Francisco or Los Angeles.  To learn more go to: http://www.google.com/glass/start/how-to-get-one/.

To keep up with Google Glass; follow them @projectglass on Twitter or +projectglass on Google Plus.

Since I can’t afford the $1500; I still wanted to tell Google what I would do with the glasses. If I had Glass; I would use the glasses to enhance the events I cover for Geek Alabama. Enhanced photos and videos would put the reader closer to an event!  It would make the reader feel like they were at the event!
