Cheaha Brewing Company Opening Soon!
No doubt about it! The craft beer industry in Alabama is exploding! Thanks to grassroots efforts like Free the Hops. Alabamians have been able to enjoy a variety of craft beers. Now the Anniston area is about to enjoy their own craft beer and brew pub! Cheaha Brewing Company is currently renovating the old L&N Freight Train Station located in the heart of downtown Anniston and they will open in late spring of 2013. In addition to the craft beer brewed on site, the restaurant will offer typical pub-style food with atypical attention to quality. The company’s founders are spending over $100,000 to renovate the old train depot.
By mid-March, Cheaha Brewing Company will open for a morning brew of coffee and light breakfast items, so folks can stop by, say hello, and check on the progress of the Portland Kettle Works brewing equipment installation and the bar build-out. After the equipment is installed and vetted, the brewpub will open for evening hours later this spring. The brewpub founders, Rodney Snider, Kimberly Schneider, and Rick Okins, are passionate about craft beer and are even more passionate about bringing it to Anniston.
Snider says, “We are extremely excited to open our doors in Anniston, especially in such a special landmark building in the middle of the revitalization downtown. We want to provide a warm and welcome environment where people will feel at home and enjoy our artisan, hand-crafted beer. Too, developing relationships with our customers and fellow business owners as we participate in the community’s overall vision for Anniston and the surrounding area is very important to us.” No doubt this is very good news for the Anniston area!
The craft beer movement in East Alabama has grown in the last few years. Back Forty Beer Company in Gadsden was the first to move in. Heroes American Grille in Weaver is brewing Patriot Joe’s Ale, and now Cheaha Brewing Company is about to join a really growing Alabama trend! Railyard Brewing Company Expansion
Also, another local Alabama brewery is about to expand! The Montgomery based Railyard Brewing Company is about to distribute their beers to the Auburn, Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, and Huntsville markets by the end of March. Railyard co-owner Bob Parker said the brewery is producing nine different beers, with three available for distribution. The beers to be available in Birmingham include an IPA, an Irish red ale called Fireman’s Red and a pilsner. The brewery doesn’t yet can or bottle, so the beer initially will be available only in bars and restaurants.
The addition of this Montgomery brewery rounds out AlaBev’s Alabama local craft beer portfolio. As the leading distributor of Alabama’s craft beer market, the addition of Railyard will offer even more distinct flavors to beer lovers throughout the state. These beers will be available in the Huntsville, Birmingham, Auburn and Tuscaloosa markets at your favorite craft beer retailers, restaurants and bars.
