It’s the most wonderful time of the year!  Christmas is next Tuesday and I know just about everyone will be out shopping for the last-minute Christmas gifts this weekend!  Personal property crimes increase as much as 50% over the holiday season, but you can help to reduce the chance that you’ll fall victim to such a crime by staying aware and following guidelines to help you stay safe.  Here are some great tips online to keep you safe while driving, shopping, and at home.

Also; be aware that criminals sometimes pose as couriers delivering gifts.  It is not uncommon for criminals to take advantage of the generosity of people during the holiday season by soliciting donations door-to-door for charitable causes although no charity is involved.  Ask for their identification, and find out how the donated funds will be used. If you are not satisfied, do not donate.

When you use an ATM, choose one that is located inside a mall, store, or well-lighted location. Withdraw only the amount of cash you need.  You need to protect your PIN by shielding the ATM keypad from anyone who is standing near you.  And for extra security, Do not throw your ATM receipt away at the ATM location.  I hope you have a safe time shopping for those Christmas gifts!
