Today an American hero passed away. Sally Ride was the first women to fly into space through the NASA shuttle Challenger in 1983. She later started her own company called Sally Ride Science to help teach students about science, math and technology. https://www.sallyridescience.com/ A statement from her company reads “Sally lived her life to the fullest, with boundless energy, curiosity, intelligence, passion, commitment, and love. Her integrity was absolute; her spirit was immeasurable; her approach to life was fearless.”
President Obama called Sally Ride a national hero and a powerful role model. And the NASA Administrator Charles Bolden said; “The nation has lost one of its finest leaders, teachers and explorers. Our thoughts and prayers are with Sally’s family and the many she inspired. She will be missed, but her star will always shine brightly.” Sally Ride died after a 17-month battle with pancreatic cancer. She was 61. Pancreatic cancer is a very deadly disease with a very low survival rate. This cancer is very hard to detect and when it is detected it is mostly too late to save the person’s life. My name is Carlos. I’m from Cordoba, Argentina, aged 64. As a former pilot and manned space missions follower and admirer, I do regret Sally’s final leave.
Four years ago I suffered a relatively severe pancreatitis and survived thanks to the removal of my gallbladder and the excellent care which I was subjected to. Physiologically speaking, I had a very good recovery but psychologically, a certain fear to repeat the disease still persists. I pray God that this doesn’t happen and that my experience can serve those who currently have to fight against it.
