Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Controversy

There has been controversy over the filmmaker Michael Bay‘s plan for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle‘s to come out of space instead of sticking to the original story-line.  If you know the original plot; four turtles come in contact with radioactive goo and then become the characters we all know and love.  But Michael Bay’s plan along with Nickelodeon will have the turtles coming out of space as aliens.  This has caused a rift among the fans and they want the story-line changed back to the original plot.  By the way I love the theme song to the original cartoon.

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have been a very successful franchise through the years.  It has spawned numerous TV shows, movies, comics, video games, and merchandise sales.  And it has been engraved into our culture.  Hey we all love our pizza!  But Viacom and Nickelodeon acquired the series and they will premiere the new cartoon this year.  There is even going to be a sneak peek aired after the Kids Choice Awards.  I am hoping the new animated series will be like the ones before it.  And maybe they will listen to the fans and make the movie plot the same as the original story.

Nickelodeon has now acquired numerous franchises from movies and past TV shows.  And their ratings have nothing to show for it.  I can give you a reason why their ratings are down.  Nick is getting other franchises and are barely coming up with anything original.  Then look at Disney; they have several original series that are very successful.  Nick has used several Dream Works movies and a YouTube star as original programming.  I would love to see Nick come back.  But they need to come up with something original that is not a rip-off of another series.  Nick needs to look at what Disney is doing to be successful.  How about a show the whole family can enjoy like Good Luck Charlie.  Or a cartoon that encourages kids to be creative like Phineas and Ferb.  Not the junk currently on the channel like Fred: The Show.

One way Nickelodeon can please its fans is by not changing the plot of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie.  Maybe they will listen this time.  Or maybe all of us geeks need to listen to Jimmy Kimmel and take Alife.
