Legislative Roundup: Week 5

This has been a quiet week down in the Alabama Legislature.  But I wonder if the folks down in Montgomery are wondering why the jury in the Alabama Bingo Trial found all of the defendants not guilty.  That’s right; the federal government has now done two trials and on both times everyone was found not guilty.  I am very happy that this was the outcome.  Because maybe; just maybe the legislators will finally wake up and realize that Alabama needs gambling.  If Alabama does not explore gambling or raising taxes.  Then Alabama is going to feel a lot of pain in the tune of thousands of prisoners being released and some mentally ill people roaming the streets.

On Wednesday; the jury came back and found all six defendants not guilty on all charges related to the bingo trial.  Once the verdicts were read everyone went outside and they were smiling and celebrating.  Who wouldn’t now that you have found not guilty twice.  Now Milton McGregor and his attorney are saying they might take civil action against some people.  I am thinking those people might be former Gov. Bob Riley and Sen. Scott Beason.

I do feel bad for the three people including Ronnie Gilley who took plea deals and now will spend time in prison while the defendants are sitting at home.  Why they took those plea deals is beyond me.  But this is the news that came out today that will certainly make news down the road.  Millton McGregor is saying he will reopen Victoryland.  That means electronic bingo is back baby!  And it also means the Alabama State Troopers will have something to do very soon.  You know someone from Alabama will order Victoryland to be shut down and we will see the images of state troopers harassing people and the moving trucks taking away the machines again.

But could Alabama just save some taxpayer money.  And let people have some fun and  the locals work again.  Alabama is facing an over $300 million deficit in its general fund.  We could easily make some of that up by allowing gambling.  But some church and political leaders have to keep sticking their heads in the moral issue.  Oh well; let the Alabama doomsday begin!

Review of the Doritos Locos Taco

So at midnight last night I went down to Taco Bell to be one of the first to try the newest taco made out of Doritos.  Yes the taco shell is made out of Doritos Nacho Cheese.  And the shell tasted exactly like the chip.  But how would it taste with beef, cheese, and lettuce inside?

At first I thought this would taste very bad.  I always like the Doritos chips but not as a taco.  But after the first bite it was very good.  The Doritos shell and the stuff inside the taco really does have a great flavor combination.

Yes you can see the taco shell has the same color as the Doritos chips.  And the taco shell held up very well while I was eating.  So I do think this is going to be a hit.

You even get the sticky colored hands from the taco.  I do think this is the hit Taco Bell needed.  Their sales have been suffering ever since some lawyers down here in Alabama sued Taco Bell over what’s in the beef.  I recommend everyone go out and try the Doritos Locos Taco today.  And do not forget to grab some napkins.

Newt Gingrich in Alabama

Newt Gingrich made a appearance in Pell City on Wednesday.  The crowd inside the Pell City Civic Center was huge and at standing room only.  Newt Gingrich talked about two big issues during his speech.  One was gas prices and the other was about Obama.

Yes the local media was here.

Callista Louise Gingrich coming out.

Here he comes.

Newt Gingrich started by saying Obama is living in a liberal fantasy world.  He also said Obama wants us to pay $8-10 a gallon for gas like people do in Europe.  He would like to debate Obama at any gas station and believes that Obama pitching algae would be a great SNL skit.  And Obama’s 9-9-9 plan would be $9.99 for a gallon of gas.

Gingrich wants to allow more drilling and biofuels to help lower the cost of a gallon of gas to around $2.50 a gallon.  He criticized the liberal news media and told the crowd he never wants to see an American president bow to a Saudi king ever again.  He told the crowd if Iran blocked oil shipments it would be an act of war.  He also said when America got to be energy independent he would tell the Europeans, Chinese, and Indians you have a energy problem.  And that Obama is anti oil; natural gas; coal; and gasoline.

He also told the crowd that America has a national security problem.  That the Muslim Brotherhood; Pakistan; and apologizing to the Middle East is bad for America.  America is sending around a trillion dollars overseas each year for energy.  And America needs to be energy independent.  A example was North Dakota which has a 3.5% unemployment rate.  And it has trouble finding workers and also has a huge budget surplus.  Gingrich wants to defeat Obama for the future of America.

Gingrich wants to fix laws; judges; and bureaucracies.  He wants Congress to repeal Obamacare and the Dood-Frank bill.  And he also wants to lessen government regulations.  If Gingrich is elected he would abolish the White House czars; approve the Keystone Pipeline; and move the American embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem on day one.  He would be a team player and change Washington.  While Romney and Santorum would play the same Washington game.  He encouraged his supporters to go on Facebook and Twitter and say; Newt = $2.50 gas.

Here he comes!

Memory for a lifetime.

Off he goes.

Remember people in Alabama and Mississippi.  Go vote on Tuesday March 13th!
