Honey Boo Boo in Pell City, AL

The talk of Alabama was not on football, it was on Honey Boo Boo.  Honey Boo Boo (Alana Thompson) and her entire family were guest stars at the Global Championship Wrestling’s Fall Brawl at the Pell City Civic Center.  You would think the crowd would be huge, and it was!  The line wrapped around the back of the civic center and the crowd inside was so huge the wrestling event eventually sold out.  Even with the wrestling event sold out people still came out to see the family.  GCW promoter Maddog Dan Sawyer provided the best quote of the night from The Daily Home newspaper.  He said “Alana and her family are just really good people and they have great hearts.  People need to come on out tonight and see that television brings these people to our homes every week, but they are just regular folks like people living in Pell City or Ragland.”

All of the money raised from the autographs and pictures goes straight to an anti-bullying campaign.  At least that’s what they claim.  And yes I went to the event on Saturday night.  The crowd at the Pell City Civic Center was the biggest I have ever seen!

Although I didn’t get any photos of the family in person.  I found some great photos from social media and the news websites.  ABC 33/40 and CBS 42 both had photos and videos from this event.

Honey Boo Boo Coming to Alabama

I can’t believe this is happening.  But Honey Boo Boo (Alana Thompson) will be coming to Pell City, AL on Saturday September 29th.  Her entire family will be guest stars at the Global Championship Wrestling’s Fall Brawl at the Pell City Civic Center.  As you know Honey Boo Boo is the star on the TLC show “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo.”  The show features the family of 6 year-old Alana Thompson from that other show Toddlers & Tiaras.  Alana’s family includes her mother Mama June, pregnant teenager Chickadee, Pumpkin, Chubbs, and the baby daddy Sugar Bear.

Honey Boo Boo will be available for photos and autographs.  The wrestling event will feature 10 matches, including Mr. O’Hagan and Micah Taylor’s battle for the heavyweight title.  The event starts at 7:30 p.m. at the Pell City Civic Center located at 2801 Stemley Bridge Road.  Tickets are $10 and doors open at 7 p.m.  For more information on Global Championship Wrestling go to: http://www.gcwpro.com/.

Roadscapes Wednesday: Maintaining A Traffic Light

If you know me for any length of time you know that I am a huge road buff and I really love traffic lights.  I go as far as reporting broken traffic lights such as burned out bulbs or broken sensors.  So I got lucky when someone from the city of Birmingham, AL had to climb into a bucket truck to replace a burned out LED light.

LED lights lasts much longer and costs less to operate than your traditional light bulbs.  That’s why many traffic lights have been switched to LED’s.  The few lights left that have not been switched will not be around for long.  Most traffic lights today are operated by a computer control box you see at the intersections.  But in Alabama there are still some traffic lights operated by the classic control box that is mechanical.  Here is one in Pell City that has the classic control box.  You can even hear the clicking noise when the light goes through its sequence.

And here is what a mechanical control box looks like when it’s opened.  Yeah this video is from a TV show in Canada but it was done very well!

Pell City Block Party

On Friday night I went to the Pell City Block party in downtown Pell City.  The record crowd had fun with lots of music.  There were four stages placed throughout the area to give people a variety of music to listen too.  And there was dancing, fun, vendors, and much more to do!  I think everyone had a great time at this event.  Enjoy the video and photos of this great event!

Fox 6 Weather Radio Wednesday

Today I went to the Walgreen’s in Pell City where Fox 6 and other people including the Pell City Fire Department, St. Clair County EMA, and the Birmingham NWS held weather radio Wednesday.  This is an very important event as Walgreen’s sells weather radios and then there are people who help program the county codes into the weather radio.

The decision is very simple; everyone needs a weather radio!  Some people still rely on those outdoor weather sirens and that is very dangerous.  You need an weather radio to help you wake up during the middle of the night.  Plus weather radios do save lives!  So if you do not have an weather radio; go get one today.  They are available just about everywhere now.  Enjoy the pictures below of the event today.

Newt Gingrich in Alabama

Newt Gingrich made a appearance in Pell City on Wednesday.  The crowd inside the Pell City Civic Center was huge and at standing room only.  Newt Gingrich talked about two big issues during his speech.  One was gas prices and the other was about Obama.

Here he comes.

Newt Gingrich started by saying Obama is living in a liberal fantasy world.  He also said Obama wants us to pay $8-10 a gallon for gas like people do in Europe.  He would like to debate Obama at any gas station and believes that Obama pitching algae would be a great SNL skit.  And Obama’s 9-9-9 plan would be $9.99 for a gallon of gas.

Gingrich wants to allow more drilling and biofuels to help lower the cost of a gallon of gas to around $2.50 a gallon.  He criticized the liberal news media and told the crowd he never wants to see an American president bow to a Saudi king ever again.  He told the crowd if Iran blocked oil shipments it would be an act of war.  He also said when America got to be energy independent he would tell the Europeans, Chinese, and Indians you have a energy problem.  And that Obama is anti oil; natural gas; coal; and gasoline.

He also told the crowd that America has a national security problem.  That the Muslim Brotherhood; Pakistan; and apologizing to the Middle East is bad for America.  America is sending around a trillion dollars overseas each year for energy.  And America needs to be energy independent.  A example was North Dakota which has a 3.5% unemployment rate.  And it has trouble finding workers and also has a huge budget surplus.  Gingrich wants to defeat Obama for the future of America.

Gingrich wants to fix laws; judges; and bureaucracies.  He wants Congress to repeal Obamacare and the Dood-Frank bill.  And he also wants to lessen government regulations.  If Gingrich is elected he would abolish the White House czars; approve the Keystone Pipeline; and move the American embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem on day one.  He would be a team player and change Washington.  While Romney and Santorum would play the same Washington game.  He encouraged his supporters to go on Facebook and Twitter and say; Newt = $2.50 gas.

Here he comes!

In the latest series of Christmas parades I head to Pell City, Alabama.  I went to the parade staging area at Pell City High School and toured the floats that was going to be in the parade and they were very good!  There were also many fire trucks and bands from Pell City and Ashville.  So enjoy the photos below of the latest Christmas Parade!
